The Schools HR Traded and Shared services team has been reviewing strategies to improve the recruitment and retention of employees within schools. The first step in understanding how to retain and attract employees is to evaluate the reasons that they are leaving and the best way to do this is by an employee completing an in-depth exit questionnaire using the up to date version of our exit survey that is available here. The Schools Human Resources (HR) Traded Services Team are aiming to develop a suite of HR related e-learning topics so that schools have on hand resources to assist them with day-to-day HR queries. The e-learning packages would last no longer than 30 minutes each and will include important information on that topic, examples, advice and additional resources available to you.
The cohort of children with a social worker who have an open referral or are subject to Child in Need plans or Child Protection plans have not had the benefit of a strategic leader, that is able to champion the educational needs of their cohort and help them make educational progress. The Virtual School is currently planning some location based summer school activities for children with a social worker, working on building self esteem and resilience in readiness for secondary school transition. This will be a pilot summer holiday project for some targeted young people with individual children invited to join the programme. Gloucestershire’s parent/carer community tell us that the name ‘Local Offer’ doesn’t explain what it is and that many in the community do not even know it exists. In response we are looking to rename the Local Offer so that its purpose is clear and so that it is easy for parents to find. The Bulletin Board at the above link has additional information.
As the final session of a well-received series of events to support schools with their curriculum, David Shears will be leading a webinar entitled, Evaluating Curriculum Impact. Known to many schools in Gloucestershire, David will support school leaders to evaluate the impact of their curriculum offer, facilitated through discussions with delegates and with Q and A opportunities interwoven throughout. As you will be aware from Keeping Children Safe in Education, there is no longer a requirement for all GCC education staff to have a DBS check unless they are undertaking regulated activity, which is broadly defined as regularly teaching, instructing or supervising children.
