Scheme update
Significant progress has been made on the Arle Court end of the scheme, with further resurfacing work taking place shortly (see closure info above)
Many areas of the Arle Court roundabout site are nearly complete, with lighting and signs continuing to be installed. The subway is now partially open to pedestrians, and we want to thank local residents for their patience.
Here are some new photos from Arle Court and new drone footage is available on YouTube.
We will send out a further project update about Telstar Way and Benhall roundabout next week.

Talk to us about our Bus Service Improvement Plans
GCC has responded to the Government’s National Bus Strategy, by signing up to an Enhanced Partnership with operators, and committing to developing and delivering a Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSiP).
This will involve a full consultation on the contents of the BSiP. However, we are keen to start learning about where bus services can be improved, so we have developed a very short survey that we’d like anyone in the county to complete, about bus services. We are sending this to you because we think it may be of interest to you.
It will take only a couple of minutes to complete, and will help us start understanding where improvements can be made.
Please forward this information on to people who may be interested.
National Highways updates
As of 20 August 2021, Highways England has been renamed National Highways. The name change reflects the role of the strategic road network – to connect the nations regions – and the part it plays in setting Highways standards across the UK.
The remit of the organisation has not changed and we will continue to operate and maintain England’s motorways and A roads.
M5 J11 Golden Valley gyratory bridge deck refurbishment
Work continues in a Covid safe manner and remain on target to complete in March 2022
Progress is being made on the M5 north and south bridge decks with hydrodemolition and concrete repairs to existing deck ends and soffit concrete are now 80 per cent complete. Concrete testing of the upper decks of both bridges has now finished and parapet reconstruction is 50 per cent complete. The decks and parapets are in a worse condition than expected and additional repairs will be needed.
Repairs to the A40 east bridge desks have been successfully completed, and west bridge decks are progressing well.
You can read more online here.
Advance warning of overnight closures
20 September - the A40 will be closed between Arle Court roundabout and Elmbridge Court roundabout from 8pm in the evening to 6am the following morning for bridge joint repair work. Please note, this work is heavily weather dependant and may be postponed in the event of adverse weather.
B4634 Staverton bridge crossing the M5 between junctions 10 and 11
The maintenance programme includes concrete repairs, replacement waterproofing, fencing and resurfacing and during the work, investigations have identified more extensive repair is required to the steelwork. The bridge is structurally safe but this additional work means the planned reopening date has been delayed, and the bridge is now anticipated to re-open in March 2022.
Please accept National Highways' apologies in advance for any inconvenience this may cause, and they thank drivers and pedestrians for their patience while they carry out these vital improvements.
We have completed all concrete works on top of the deck and we're now working on the underside edgebeams. Work on the western abutment is ongoing and we've started making the Public Right of Way safer. You can find more updates online here.
