This South West Child Protection Record Transfer Protocol has been agreed by all those attendees of the South West Education Group and adopted by the Gloucestershire Education and Early Years Sub-Group of the partnership. This Record Transfer Protocol should be used where there is no existing protocol for when children, for whom there are Child Protection (CP) record, move school or educational setting. With the summer break approaching, the NSPCC are promoting their Speak out, Stay safe online programme to primary schools. The South West Regional Cyber Crime Unit (SWRCCU) in collaboration with the South West Cyber Resilience Centre (SWCRC) are inviting educational establishments from the South West region to join them on 13 July 2021 at 10am for a free cyber briefing on the threat of ransomware to the education sector. The South West Health Protection Team will be running more COVID-19 educational setting webinars for any educational setting to attend on Thursdays. The Team Around the Locality Cluster (TALC) was piloted to help support schools to provide additional help to those who need it, when they need it. A senior leader at a Gloucestershire school has praised the TALC intervention and encouraged other schools in the county to use the support. Link to newsletter. Primary
NELI is a school-based programme for children in Reception (4-5 years) which has been found to improve children’s language and early literacy skills. This programme is funded by the Department for Education. Primary schools are eligible to enrol on the NELI programme free of charge (places are being allocated on a first come first served basis and registration is open until 30th July 2021). The Standards and Testing Agency (STA) has confirmed that it will be statutory for schools to administer a past version of the PSC to Y2 pupils during the second half of the 2021 autumn term. Y2 pupils who meet the expected standard in the autumn check will not be required to complete any further statutory assessments in phonics. Y2 pupils who do not meet the expected standard in the autumn check will be expected to take the statutory PSC in June 2022. The STA has published updated administration guidance for schools.
