The premium must be spent by school proprietors on making additional and sustainable improvements to the provision of PE and sport for the benefit of all primary-aged pupils to encourage the development of healthy, active lifestyles. This applies also to any carry over funding from the academic year 2019 to 2020 that must be spent by the end of the 2020 to 2021 academic year.

The Government has revoked the Exit Cap legislation with effect from 12 February 2021. Payment of benefits in the case of early retirements incurring “Strain Costs” to employers are no longer currently capped and the government has stated it intends consulting on and subsequently re-introducing a cap from a future date.
