New Ofsted Framework September 2019
The new Ofsted Framework was published in May 2019. This will govern all schools and settings from September onwards. There are no changes to the Ofsted grades, however, the judgement categories have been revised and will now cover: Quality of Education, Behaviour and Attitudes, Personal Development, Leadership and Management.
Some key themes have emerged which include: reducing workload for teachers, an emphasis on resilience for pupils, high quality pastoral care and a culture that promotes a strong connection between children and their communities, tackling ‘off-rolling’, and a broad, well-balanced knowledge-rich curriculum.
The Quality of Education judgement puts the curriculum at the heart of inspection together with teaching, assessment, attainment and progress, reading and readiness for the next stage of education. As in previous frameworks, all schools are expected to have an established culture of safeguarding. Where safeguarding is ineffective, this is likely to lead to an inadequate leadership and management judgement.
Ofsted have produced a short (3m) film on how the new framework should be supporting the focus on children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)
