 Stroud and South Gloucestershire College student wins ‘Future Me’ design competition
A competition to design a logo for the county council’s ‘Future Me’ initiative has been won by Lena Jones from Stroud and South Gloucestershire College.
Lena was one of 8 finalists, who were invited along with their families and teachers, to a special celebration event held in the Council Chamber at Shire Hall on 2 April.
‘Future Me’ is the new local name for ‘Preparing for adulthood’ which is a national programme designed to give young people the support they need to become happy, healthy adults. It aims to educate, train and empower; promoting independence, good health and the value of contributing to the wider community.
Each of the finalists gave a short presentation about their design to the judging panel which included members of the council’s Design and Digital teams. The judges were very impressed by all of the creativity shown and chose Lena’s logo as the winner for its versatility.
All finalists were given a canvas of their own design to take home and Lena will now work with the council’s Design team to bring her winning creation to life.
The logo will be centre stage on a brand new ‘Future Me’ website which the council is developing together with its partner agencies, to improve the advice and guidance available to all young people across the county.
Tim Browne, Director of Education at Gloucestershire County Council said: “I was incredibly impressed with the creativity displayed by our finalists and welcomed this opportunity to recognise and celebrate their talent.
Involving young people in the creation and development of ‘Future Me’ will be crucial to its success, and so we’re keen to for them to participate at each stage of development. Coming up, we have a number of workshops planned to collect their feedback on our progress so far.”
