THE MUSIC WORKS

Re-engagement  in learning through music - for young people who are struggling with behaviour in school

** Please forward this email to your inclusion / behavioural / pastoral lead and mention this section – it could mean music can make a difference to even more young people in your school **

The Music Works’ 10-week Digital Music Lab programme,  brings the small group music mentoring that’s proved effective in APSs, to young people who are struggling to engage in learning because of their behaviour and are at risk of exclusion. Digital Music Lab has been piloted in Severn Vale, Pitville and Peak Academy and we’re now making this heavily subsidised programme available to three more schools in the Autumn.

Find out more/book here

The Music Works also run one-to-one music mentoring programmes. Email The Music Works for more information.

10-wk* & NEW 20-wk*  subsidised introduction to fundamental music skills with iPads!

Are you struggling to engage everyone in music in your classroom? The Music Works’ iPad music programme will help your pupils learn fundamental music skills and concepts in a fun, creative and inclusive way – and they will love it! Subsidised places from £399 per 10-week block for 10- 20- and 30- week whole class iPad music.

Suitable for primary and secondary school (and can be run as an after school club).

There is also a space for one programme in a mainstream secondary, working with young people with SEN/D who may find it difficult to access classroom music.

“Fantastic delivery of sessions – children are confident to explore and develop the program and are not afraid to make mistakes.  Children are working together to compose and appraise their pieces before editing confidently to improve. Children are engaged in the sessions and it doesn’t seem like a lesson to them.  They are conversing using terminology and appraising their compilations.”

“I have a particularly difficult member of the class who is often hard to get involved in his work consistently and has proved more than a challenge for teachers leading to in-house exclusions, he has been actively involved in all the lessons and has not had to be removed from any of these lessons.”

Price: £399 per 10-week block

GYC May 2018

GLOUCESTERSHIRE MUSIC

Nominations for Gloucestershire County Youth Choir (GYC) are now OPEN!

Gloucestershire Youth Choir (GYC) represents the very best young singers in years 7-13 from across the county's 39 secondary schools.  By joining, students will get the chance to take part in singing courses three times a year during weekends or school holidays and work with experienced vocal tutors and visiting professional singers/artists.  Each two-day course has a fee of £40.  Bursaries are available so please contact us on 01452 330300 for more information about applicable criteria.

Recommendations for membership are usually made by secondary school Heads of Music, singing tutors or community choir leaders – so if you wish to nominate any students for the next academic year then please email us and we will send you the relevant links and letters to provide to the students/parents.

‘Nominating is a great way to show your most dedicated and motivated singers that you value their commitment and talent and enable them to have wonderful opportunities to broaden their singing experiences, perform in some fabulous locations and meet other like-minded students.  The range of genres they explore is brilliant and gives them a chance to really extend their vocal skills whilst being totally inspired by the professional tutors and visiting artists.  From performing at venues such as the Royal Albert Hall to Tewkesbury Abbey, these singers really do have some magical experiences.’ Lisa Mayo, Head of Gloucestershire Music and Manager of GYC

Check out the membership list that was sent out to all schools for this current year’s members and make sure your school is represented.

To read more about the choir, the tutors, the courses for next year and to listen to some clips of their recent performances then please go to their dedicated web page
