Ratings for care homes and domiciliary support services launches in Wales
From 1 April 2025, care providers will be required by law to display their CIW ratings, marking a significant step forward in improving transparency and helping people make informed choices about care services.
Quality care, clear choices
The new ratings system aims to empower people when making decisions about care for themselves or their family and friends. Ratings will be awarded across four key themes:
- Well-being - how the service supports people's physical and mental health, rights, independence, and relationships.
- Care and support - the quality and appropriateness of care provided to meet individual needs.
- Leadership and management - how well the service is run, including staff support and quality assurance.
- Environment - the suitability, safety and maintenance of physical spaces (for accommodation-based services only).
Services will receive one of four ratings for each theme:
- Excellent
- Good
- Requires improvement
- Requires significant improvement
The benefit of ratings
The introduction of ratings offers several key benefits:
- transparent information - clear, accessible information about the quality of care provided
- support for decision-making - helping people compare services when making important care choices
- promoting high standards - encouraging continuous improvement across the sector
- peace of mind - greater confidence when selecting care services for loved ones
Benefits for care providers
The ratings system also offers important benefits for care providers:
- recognition of excellence - a chance to showcase high-quality care and dedicated service
- identifying strengths - clear feedback on what works well in services
- targeted improvement - focused guidance on areas for development
- staff motivation - recognition of teams delivering excellent care
- enhanced reputation - the opportunity to demonstrate quality to potential service users
Chief Inspector of CIW Gillian Baranski commented:
"Our new ratings system puts people at the heart of care quality assessment. By focusing on the outcomes that matter most to people using services, we aim to drive improvements that enhance people's lives and well-being while recognising the excellent care already being delivered across Wales."

Lansio graddau ar gyfer cartrefi gofal a gwasanaethau cymorth cartref yng Nghymru
O 1 Ebrill 2025, bydd yn ofynnol yn ôl y gyfraith i ddarparwyr gofal arddangos y graddau a ddyfarnwyd iddynt gan AGC, sy'n gam sylweddol ymlaen wrth wella tryloywder a helpu pobl i wneud dewisiadau gwybodus am wasanaethau gofal.
Gofal o ansawdd, dewisiadau clir
Nod y system graddau newydd yw grymuso pobl pan fyddant yn gwneud penderfyniadau ynghylch gofal iddyn nhw neu i aelodau o'u teulu a'u ffrindiau. Bydd graddau yn cael eu dyfarnu ar draws pedair thema allweddol:
-
Llesiant - Sut mae'r gwasanaeth yn cefnogi iechyd corfforol a meddyliol y bobl, eu hawliau, eu hannibyniaeth, a'u cydberthnasau.
-
Gofal a chymorth - Ansawdd a phriodolrwydd y gofal a ddarperir i ddiwallu anghenion unigol.
-
Arweinyddiaeth a rheolaeth - Pa mor dda y mae'r gwasanaeth yn cael ei redeg, gan gynnwys cymorth i staff a phrosesau sicrhau ansawdd.
-
Yr Amgylchedd - Addasrwydd a diogelwch ardaloedd ffisegol a'r trefniadau cynnal a chadw (ar gyfer gwasanaethau llety yn unig).
Bydd un o bedair gradd yn cael ei dyfarnu i wasanaethau ar gyfer pob thema:
- Rhagorol
- Da
- Rhaid gwella
- Rhaid gwella'n sylweddol
Manteision graddau
Mae'r broses o gyflwyno graddau yn cynnig sawl mantais allweddol:
- Gwybodaeth dryloyw - Gwybodaeth glir a hygyrch am ansawdd y gofal a ddarperir
- Cymorth i wneud penderfyniadau - Helpu pobl i gymharu gwasanaethau wrth wneud dewisiadau gofal pwysig
- Hyrwyddo safonau uchel - Annog gwelliant parhaus ym mhob rhan o'r sector
- Tawelwch meddwl - Mwy o hyder wrth ddewis gwasanaethau gofal i anwyliaid
Y manteision i ddarparwyr gofal
Mae'r system graddau hefyd yn cynnig manteision pwysig i ddarparwyr gofal:
- Cydnabod rhagoriaeth - Cyfle i arddangos gofal o ansawdd uchel a gwasanaeth ymroddedig
- Nodi cryfderau - Adborth clir ar yr hyn sy'n gweithio'n dda o fewn gwasanaethau
- Gwelliant wedi'i dargedu - Arweiniad penodol ar feysydd i'w datblygu
- Cymell staff - Cydnabod timau sy'n darparu gofal rhagorol
- Enw gwell - Y cyfle i arddangos ansawdd i ddarpar ddefnyddwyr y gwasanaeth
Nododd Prif Arolygydd AGC, Gillian Baranski:
"Mae ein system graddau newydd yn rhoi pobl wrth wraidd y broses o asesu ansawdd gofal. Drwy ganolbwyntio ar y canlyniadau sydd bwysicaf i'r bobl sy'n defnyddio gwasanaethau, ein nod yw ysgogi gwelliannau sy'n gwella bywydau a llesiant pobl, gan ar yr un pryd gydnabod y gofal rhagorol sydd eisoes yn cael ei ddarparu ledled Cymru."
