Two online sessions are taking place on Monday 20 September for residents to discuss their views and ideas with the Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Louise McKinlay. In these sessions Cllr McKinlay will outline ideas for key principles to help guide the service and its future development. Residents will be able to discuss these, as well as make suggestions and offer feedback. Visit the Essex County Council site to learn more and book your place. If you have any questions or comments for the sessions, please send them in to us at essex.libraries@essex.gov.uk with the subject ‘Have your say on the library service ’.

Look out for brand new Reading Well collections available in all Essex libraries! These books have been specially selected by healthcare experts and approved by people with lived experience of the conditions they cover. They're designed to provide information and support with mental health and wellbeing through the proven power of reading. There are three collections available, one for adults, one for children and one for young adults.

Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Louise McKinlay said: “The Reading Well initiative is a great example of how our libraries are not only places where people can go to read for enjoyment, but places where advice and information is available for anyone needing it.
“Of course, a book is no replacement for our wonderful NHS mental health services, but the Reading Well initiative offers additional support and information to anyone that may need it. These resources can be easily accessed all over the county and are available for all ages, which we hope will make a real positive difference to our communities.”

Visit the Essex Libraries website to find full details of the Reading Well collections and the booklists they contain. You will also find links to trusted health websites you can search for more information and support with your health and wellbeing.
