How to unwrap a Christmas concert in 2020

Christmas tree

Sarah Goldsmith, our Schools' Music Curriculum Support Officer, writes about our new inspirational network group for Primary School Music Leads.

As a teacher there is nothing better than finding something new to try with your pupils.  Our heads are full of ideas and inspiration and clever ways of doing things but sometimes we need something new to inspire our imaginations and remind ourselves of what we already know.  Quite often we also need a little boost to give us the confidence to know that we are doing a good job for the young people in our care!

Continue reading Sarah's thought-provoking report, including how to record a Christmas music message for the school website here.

Save the date -  the next network meeting is Tuesday 12th January 2021 where we will discuss all things music curriculum. We will be joined by Kristian Parkes, Area Manager for Charanga, who will talk us through some of the fantastic features outside the main Charanga scheme. Details will be on our website soon here.

Spring it on! News on our online music lessons

music lessons

If a school setting does not allow for the safe delivery of music from our specialist music tutors, why not join us in the Spring term for online 1-to-1 lessons?

Many parents have been upbeat about the outcomes of our lessons.  Here is just one of them:-

“The lessons have been invaluable and I never expected them to be such a positive experience for our son.  He has really loved the lessons with Barbara – she is really, really positive and engaging. Delighted that we had this opportunity,” said one parent.

Rap-It! in Rayleigh

Our charismatic Rap tutor, Kenny Baraka, recently delivered a Rap-It! workshop to pupils at Edward Francis Primary school in Rayleigh.

The children loved meeting a 'real-life American rapper' and chose to link the workshop to their Anti-Bullying week.

Here are two comments from the pupils at the Rayleigh school:-

"I really enjoyed making our own rap as a group."

"Thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to work with a rapper and he was very encouraging and supportive.”

Find out more details about this workshop here.

Funding for Rap-It! workshops and more...

If you have Looked After Children (LAC) or Post Looked After Children (PLAC) in your school, thanks to the Virtual School, funding is available until July 2021 to support with musical development.

The funding available can deliver a free music provision to a specific LAC or PLAC individually, such as 1-to-1 lessons or you may find it more appropriate and inclusive to deliver a group or whole class activity, such as a Rap or Drum workshop, that involves the LAC or PLAC.More information is available on this link.
