Bethan Spraggs

Multi-award winner, Bethan Spraggs, has written about her musical  journey from walking the dog, to playing Trumpet with the Essex Youth Brass, Essex Junior Jazz, Essex Youth Orchestra, various Brass Bands, National Children's Orchestra of Great Britain and now the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain. 

Since writing her story below, Bethan has won Musician of the Year at The Hertfordshire & Essex High School, 2020.  Read Bethan's inspirational and entertaining story in full

Drum roll for Drum-It!


Drum-It! offers exciting opportunities for all Key Stage classes on African, Indian or Samba drums and also Aboriginal Didgeridoos. 

At the full-day workshop, a drum tutor presents an assembly to the whole school and then delivers 30 – 45 minute workshops to classes. Full details on each drum workshop can be found on this link.

Essex Youth Percussion Academy is a fantastic opportunity to experience a totally unique world of sound.

Combining Xylophones, Drums and other orchestral percussion, members perform arrangements of well-known tunes such as Riverdance, Jenkins’ Palladio and  “Beat it” by Michael Jackson.  Find out more about this unique group and how to join here.

Create and Sing in Essex and at the BBC Proms 2020


Don't miss your chance to come along to a free Royal Opera House's Create & Sing CPD day in Colchester (10th March) or Basildon (16th March) and also sing at the BBC Proms 2020!

Create and Sing offers free training and resources, enabling teachers to explore and create opera in the classroom. Teachers develop skills in singing, drama, storytelling, characterisation and music. No musical training is required.

Young Composers Award 2020  The National Centre for Early Music Award is now open to young composers up to the age of 25. Composers are invited to create a new polyphonic work for an unaccompanied choir.
