Music Group feature - Essex Youth Symphonic Wind Orchestra 


Essex Music Services runs many Music Groups around the County where young people, already learning an instrument, can further enhance their skills, meet other like-minded musicians, form new friendships and perform in concerts throughout the year.

Focus on Wickford Community Music Centre

Essex Music Service runs a network of community music centres throughout the County where young musicians of any experience can play together in bands, music groups and sing in choirs.

In this newsletter we highlight our Wickford Community Music Centre and news on Natasha Sims (pictured).

Opportunities for Young Musicians


Wickford has a new Dood in Town. Doods are beginner Clarinets.Starting in January 2020 Band rehearsals will take place on Wednesdays from 6pm - 7pm.

Benfleet's new Toot Band! Toots provide a great introduction to taking up the flute.This Band takes place on Saturdays from 9am - 10am. Playing a Toot or Dood offers an excellent and fun way to begin learning an instrument, build musicianship skills and gain musical friends.

Caprice Wind Orchestra, celebrates its 30th Birthday this year by launching, Young Caprice, its new junior orchestra. Further information and how to join can be found here on Young Caprice.

Teachers - CPD & Network Dates for your Diaries


Secondary School Network Meetings - a good way to meet other professionals, be kept up to date by guest speakers, have access to the latest Music Education developments and the opportunity to share ideas. Next meeting for the Mid-Quadrant Secondary School Network is on 14 January 2020 in Chelmsford and the South Quadrant Secondary School Network Meeting takes place in Rayleigh on 3 February 2020.

Teaching the Recorder one step ahead of the pupils - taking place in Witham on 3 December. It's designed for class teachers with little or no experience in Recorder playing.l

Practical skill progression - taking place in Benfleet on 2 March 2020. Focusing on practical skills in assisting to perform, explore and create music with pupils.

Charanga and O-Generator CPD Training - these are free to all schools who have a current subscription to our E-Learning Package.

Music Working within and across the Arts - One day course subsidised to £40 takes place on 19 March 2020 in Chelmsford.

Live Music - Dates for your Diaries


Hear the Essex Youth Jazz Orchestra directed by its resident conductor, Martin Hathaway, for free on 14 December in Maldon.

Save the date - 28 December 2019 at 7.30pm. The  Essex Youth and Essex Youth Choir will be back at the Chelmsford Cathedral.  More news coming soon!

Music to our ears


The Essex Youth Jazz Sextet helped raise £300 for Essex Young Musicians Trust at an Autumn Variety Concert held on November 1 at Christ Church URC in Chelmsford.
