Superfast Essex Programme Update - May 2016

Have you checked out our updated map?

New interactive map colours

The Superfast Essex programme has given its interactive map a refresh to make it easier to identify where superfast broadband is currently available or planned. We've reduced the number of colours and labels and it's now possible to view the map full screen.

The areas where superfast broadband is available now appear pink, and the areas where work is planned appear green. The areas which are currently not due to be covered by our fibre rollout are shown as blue. Click on the map to view the pop-up box and full programme status details for your postcode and view the full map key here.

The good news is the pink areas are growing as we're moving ever closer towards the end of our first phase of delivery with BT. We're on track to finish early so we can then look to get started with the work we have planned for Phase 2. Listen out for more news on this next month!

Gigaclear’s 1Gbps showcase continues

Gigaclear event

The Rural Challenge Project in Epping Forest District is continuing to progress well.

Approximately 900 homes and businesses within and around the Bobbingworth, Fyfield and Norton Heath areas now have a new fibre connection point installed at the boundary of their property, of which nearly 800 are live and ready to access ultrafast pure fibre broadband.

Residents and businesses within the Epping Forest District were invited to test out the 1Gbps internet speeds being deployed using their own devices, at a Demonstration Day held at Fyfield Village Hall, on Saturday 16 April. Another Demo Day is being planned for those unable to attend. Keep an eye on the Gigaclear 'Events' page and the Superfast Essex 'Events' page for details.

Also in April, a Q&A event was held at Toot Hill village hall to answer residents' queries. Similar community events are being planned for Stapleford Tawney, The Lavers and Hastingwood. Again, Check the Gigaclear 'Events' page for details.

Meet our new superhero - Super Sam!

Super Sam

Super Sam is working with Superfast Essex to bring superfast broadband to as many homes and businesses as possible. Throughout this year, Super Sam will be visiting five different locations across the county to highlight where the Superfast Essex programme has upgraded the broadband network to fibre so far. He'll also be reminding everyone what they need to do to get up to speed.

We'll be spreading word of Super Sam's whereabouts throughout his journey to let people know where he'll be, including writing to local schools in each area Sam visits, and sending out posters and leaflets - so look out for information in an area near you.

Business blogs, vlogs and webinars live

Following on from the success of the four Digital Business Workshops held in February and March 2016 in partnership with Eastern Enterprise Hub, the webinar sessions that were filmed on the day have been uploaded to our Digital Toolkit, so that all businesses can benefit. These webinars capture the key information, advice, and practical knowledge our digital experts shared in each of the workshop sessions.

Alongside the webinars, a a number of vlogs and blogs have been created to guide businesses on online topics such as ‘How to make your own promotional video and ‘How to make your website appeal to online customers’.  Visit the Digital Toolkit to view more topics.

Broadband Champion Sessions

Superfast Essex recently hosted Broadband Champion sessions in Myland and Little Yeldham to update the champions on how the programme is progressing and provide an opportunity for them to ask questions.

If you are interested in being a Broadband Champion for your local neighbourhood, check our list on our website and ask your parish or town council to make sure they haven't already chosen a representative, then get in touch using our 'Contact us' form.

Parish event

The next Superfast Essex countywide Parish event is coming up soon.

The aim of the event is to update parishes on the programme and provide an opportunity for questions and answers.

Details of the event will be sent to parishes in due course and added to our events list

SuperConnected Business

Superfast Essex invites businesses to join the team on 7 June at their SuperConnected Business conference at Chelmsford City Racecourse. It’s a full-day event designed to help businesses throughout Essex understand the broadband connectivity options available to them and to showcase the difference good internet speeds can make to their bottom line. Book your free place today!

Queen's Speech

You will have heard the announcement made in the Queen's speech to introduce a new legal right for every property to have access to broadband download speeds of 10Mbps. This has no immediate impact on our programme, but we are working with the government and BT to clarify the details and will keep you informed as these emerge.

Summer events

The summer is nearly upon us so we're preparing to bring back our pink gazebo and pink t-shirts for two community events coming up. Look out for us at:

  • Tendring Hundred Show (9 July)
  • Essex Food and Drink Festival (16 & 17 July)

Want to see us anywhere else? Contact us and if we can get there, we will.
