Plan for more support for care homes

Work to support care homes has formed part of our wider system response to COVID-19 since the beginning of the emergency in March, and we have worked closely as a health and social care system and with our partners to agree a new plan to reinforce that.

The Govt asked all Local Authorities to review or put in place a care home support plan, drawing on local resilience and business continuity plans.

The East Sussex Care Homes Resilience Plan covers the full range of actions set out in the recent COVID-19 care home support package including: infection prevention and control, training, PPE, reducing workforce movement, quarantining, stepping up NHS clinical support, comprehensive testing, and; building the workforce

The plan has been submitted to Govt on behalf of East Sussex County Council and East Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group. East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust and Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust have also been involved, and the views of local Registered Care Association representatives, the Chairs of the East Sussex Health and Wellbeing Board and Local Resilience Forum, and Healthwatch East Sussex have also been taken into consideration.

Be Coast and Country Aware- Stay safe and safeguard our emergency services

coast aware

The Sussex Resilience Forum (SRF) is reminding members of the public to stay safe when visiting the county’s coastal sites and open areas.

Following government changes to Covid-19 restrictions, members of the public are able to exercise freely and travel any distance to reach outdoor areas for the purpose of exercise or recreation, whilst complying with social distancing regulations.

An increase in visitors to coastal areas and national parks in Sussex is expected as the warm weather continues, and SRF partners are urging all to stay safe, safeguarding themselves and the county’s emergency services.

Waste sites - please think twice

Although our household waste sites have reopened we are, once again, urging people to stay away unless absolutely essential. Thousands of visitors have had to be turned away from since they reopened on May 18.

To ensure social distancing, a number of restrictions have had to be put into place which reduces the capacity at each facility.  Opening hours have been reduced to ensure the sites can be serviced and cleaned, and vans, trailers and vehicles over 2m high have been temporarily banned. But with many taking advantage of the warm weather to work on their homes and gardens, some are queuing for more than two hours for some of the county’s sites.

We completely understand people are keen to get rid of the rubbish they have been storing since our waste sites closed, but they simply can not cope with the number of visitors we are currently seeing.

The number of cars queuing is also posing a real danger to other road users and preventing us from preparing the site for more visitors. We have already had motorists attempting to get to sites turned away by police as roads have become blocked.

The health situation in East Sussex

There are now 716 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in East Sussex. There are 274,762 cases across the UK, and sadly 38,489 people have now died from the disease.

For info, there are 440 confirmed cases in Brighton & Hove, 4,989 in Kent, 2,924 in Surrey and 1,325 in West Sussex.
