The autumn and winter plan
Last week the Government revealed its autumn and winter plan. The Government's Plan A is a comprehensive approach designed to steer the country through autumn and winter 2021-22, by:
a. Building our defences through pharmaceutical interventions: vaccines, antivirals and disease modifying therapeutics.
b. Identifying and isolating positive cases to limit transmission: Test, Trace and Isolate.
c. Supporting the NHS and social care: managing pressures and recovering services.
d. Advising people on how to protect themselves and others: clear guidance and communications.
e. Pursuing an international approach: helping to vaccinate the world and managing risks at the border.
More details on Plan A, as well as information on Plan B, is available: COVID-19 response: autumn and winter plan 2021.
Latest information on vaccines
Boosters
The COVID-19 vaccines provide high levels of protection against hospitalisation or dying from the virus. To maintain this high level of protection through the coming winter, the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) is advising that booster vaccines be offered to those more at risk from serious disease, and who were vaccinated during Phase 1 of the vaccine programme (priority groups 1 to 9).
Vaccines for 12-15 year olds
Young people aged 12-15 years old are now being offered one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine following the UK Chief Medical Officers' advice. For more information, view the resources for children and young people on COVID-19 vaccination.
Flu vaccines
The flu vaccine is available for free on the NHS for some groups of people. You can find out if you are eligible and why it's important to get a flu vaccination this year with the NHS information on flu vaccine.
