Welcome to May’s Green Steps! It’s half-term next week, so we’ve got a couple of ideas to keep your family busy as well as helping to create a better future for everyone.

Bees are at the heart of our environment and food production in the country. Broccoli, carrots, fennel, parsnips, turnips, kale, apples, raspberries and tomatoes are among the British crops that rely on pollination by bees. Check out this blog by the Woodland Trust about why they’re important and how you can help.
A great way you can involve your kids in providing a home for bees this half-term is by building a bee hotel.

Another half-term option is hiring bikes for a trip around Whitehill & Bordon’s Green Loop, funded by EHDC.
You can hire bikes and e-bikes from Cycle Sphere for up to two hours completely free of charge, collecting from The Shed.
Whitehill & Bordon’s Green Loop is an award-winning network of paths that criss-cross through and around the town. At 7km long it connects areas of interest and local beauty, including the Hogmoor Inclosure, The Shed and Quebec Terrace.

Wednesday 5 June is the United Nations’ World Environment Day. The focus this year is on land restoration, repairing desertification and drought resilience. We cannot turn back time, but we can grow forests, green our cities, harvest rainwater and eat soil-friendly foods. We are the generation that can make peace with land. Visit their website to find out more, and watch an inspirational video.
