Alison Hernandez elected Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Commissioner
Alison Hernandez (Conservative Candidate - More Police, Safer Streets) was elected Police and Crime Commissioner with 131,764 votes.
Two other candidates stood for this role, Steve Lodge (Liberal Democrats - For a fair deal) received 64,790 votes, and Daniel John Steel (Labour and Co-operative Party) 107,897.

New East Devon councillor elected to Exmouth Brixington ward
586 residents voted for Aurora Bailey (Conservative Party), who won the seat in Exmouth Brixington after a turnout of 26%.
Three other candidates stood for the seat, Julie Bennett (Labour Party) received 339 votes; Dianne Conduit (Liberal Democrats) 513 votes and Michael Rosser (Green Party) 136 votes.

One day later: bank holiday Recycling and Waste collections
All collections of recycling, refuse and green waste will be one day later next week due to the Bank Holiday on Monday 6 May.

The first expansion of Cranbrook gets a green light

The largest planning permission issued by East Devon District Council since the new town was created will allow up to 1,435 homes, a primary school, a special educational needs school, a neighbourhood centre and more.

Summer beach restrictions for dogs return
Summer restrictions on dogs on East Devon's beaches came into force on Wednesday, 1 May. This year, there have been some changes to restrictions in Beer, Seaton and Sidmouth.

Construction of the final stage of Feniton’s Flood Alleviation Scheme expected to begin mid-summer 2024
Due to ongoing risks with Feniton’s flood prevention scheme, East Devon District Council, working with its partners, have decided to push construction back to mid-summer 2024.

Beer's Cliff Top car park improvements unveiled
As well as being resurfaced, Beer's Cliff Top car park has a new soakaway system and road humps. These features will both guide and slow any surface water, meaning that the car park will remain in a better condition for longer than before.

Local businesses are urged to submit expressions of interest for the Innovation and Resilience 3 Fund before the deadline of Wednesday, 8 May.

Sidmouth volunteers presented with high-vis tabards

Every Thursday morning, volunteers in Sidmouth have been meeting up to manage and care for their local cemeteries, and new members are always welcome.
Sidmouth Town Council thanked the group for their ‘ongoing commitment and work’ presenting them with high-vis tabards, designed by Vision Group for Sidmouth's (VGS) Mary Walden-Till, carrying the town's and district councils' logos.
Cherishing Sidmouth’s Cemeteries was set up at the end of 2023 as part of VGS, with the support of East Devon District Council.

Exmouth's inaugural Gate to Plate festival celebrated as a triumph

Up to 8,000 visitors came along to a celebration of the finest local food and craft producers on Exmouth's Strand on Sunday, 28 April.

Develop your still life oil painting skills over four weeks
Join artist Gill Burbidge to explore oil painting techniques and skills to create a still life. Four sessions will run over consecutive Saturdays from 1 - 22 June, between 11am and 1pm.
Tickets for the four sessions are available on Thelma Hulbert Gallery's website for £120. There are free places for 15-25 year olds and tickets for THG Friends cost £110 .

East Devon District Council tenants' feedback wanted
The council’s Housing service are always looking to improve to make sure that it meets tenants’ needs. That’s why they would like to hear tenants' feedback on the new Resident Involvement Strategy, which sets out five aims for the next four years.
The deadline for tenants to share their thoughts is Sunday, 5 May.
