Pirate-themed play park opened in Beer
Beer and Branscombe Councillor John Heath, with Councillor Geoff Jung, East Devon District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Coast, Country, and Environment
Beer children can now embark on pirate adventures, sailing the seven seas, thanks to a brand-new seafront play park.
It all comes as part of a £400k district-wide revamp by the council, with refurbishments planned for a host of play areas across the district.

16 April is the deadline for registering to vote for the Police and Crime Commissioner election
East Devon will go to the polls on 2 May and vote for the next Devon and Cornwall Police and Crime Commissioner.
Make sure that you've registered to vote, that you've got a valid form of ID, and you've decided whether you'll vote in person or by post.
Residents urged to verify changes in Single Person Discount Status
32% of East Devon households claim the discount as of 1 March 2024
Residents who receive Single Person Discount are being urged to ensure that any changes in their circumstances have been promptly notified to the council. Failure to report changes before the deadline of 5th April could result in a penalty of £70 being added to their Council Tax bill.

Councils outline mowing expectations for Sid Valley residents
Grassy areas which will be allowed to grow to help wildlife and nature flourish in Sidmouth, will be signposted with paths maintained and created for everyone’s enjoyment.

There's something for all the family at Sidford Social Hall on Tuesday 2 April, from 9am until 12pm, including an Easter egg trail and a scavenger hunt. There are prizes to be won too.
Representatives from organisations such as Citizens Advice Bureau, Exeter Community Energy, and Parental Mind will also be there to chat about the support that they offer.

Join a guided bluebell walk through Holyford Woods nature reserve
Saturday 20 April, 11am-3pm. Parking and toilets at Colyford Village hall, with a shuttle bus to and from the woods
Enjoy the beautiful woodlands with nettle soup, tea and cakes, crafts, and guided walks.

John Nettles opens South West Academy exhibition at Thelma Hulbert Gallery

John Nettles OBE, President of the South West Academy of Fine and Applied Arts and also of Bergerac and Midsomer Murders fame, opened the new South West Academy exhibition.
The South West Academy Exhibition includes original paintings, sculpture, photography and limited edition prints. All work is for sale.
Upstairs, The Glow of Hours features a collection of paintings by Rebecca Partridge, including works responding to the local Devon landscape.
Both exhibitions are open until 11 May, Tuesday to Saturday, from 10am – 5pm.
