About the role:
Following promotion of the current post holder we are seeking a competent new staff member with an interest in data analysis and mapping to join our busy planning team. In this interesting role, you will provide the Planning Policy service with technical support to assist the team to meet their priorities and achieve the Council's objectives. You will be responsible for researching, assembling and assessing data relevant to planning policy and for undertaking monitoring of development across East Devon. This will include creating, updating and maintaining record systems, generating reports and critically assessing outputs before communicating these back to the team so informed decisions can be made. This job is being advertised as a full time post but the council will consider applicants that may wish to work part-time hours. The actual hours & pattern of work can be flexible and will be agreed at the time of appointment.
About you:
With a keen eye for detail and an aptitude for evaluating and interpreting data, you will have a good standard of education and excellent communication skills. You will be competent in using IT systems to record and analyse information and have a good working knowledge of Excel and experience in the use of databases; ideally you will also have some experience in the use of mapping systems and a real interest in mapping tasks. Where relevant, training will be given. In addition, you must also have a structured and methodical approach to your work, an interest in planning and a desire to learn. A qualification or degree in planning, geography or a similar discipline would be an advantage, although this is not essential. Most importantly, we welcome candidates with a bright positive attitude and enthusiasm for the work. This vacancy could be suitable for a graduate or school/college leaver looking to develop their career or for someone with an enquiring mind who enjoys researching and analysing data.
