Planned Works Surveyor (Climate Change)

About the role
The primary function of our Property & Asset team is to deliver a decent home for all and to maintain our housing stock to a high standard. We want to ensure our housing stock is compliant with all statutory regulations and are safe and secure homes to live in. We have approximately 4,200 properties including houses, bungalow and flats as well as a number of garages, houses of multiple occupancy, community centres, sewage treatment plants and communal grounds. We have an excellent opportunity for a Planned Works Surveyor (Climate Change) within our housing team to support the delivery of our programmed works focusing on the delivery of improvement works in line with our Climate Strategy for reducing reliance on fossil fuels and building fabric and insulation improvement within our housing stock. You'll also develop specifications, tenders and contracts for major repairs and improvement works incorporating appropriate retrofit energy efficiencies. In addition, you'll work closely with our Planned Works & Climate Change Manager and other colleagues within the wider surveyor and compliance teams.
About you
Our dedicated surveyors are proactive and able to make informed decisions based on their industry knowledge and expertise. They are self-starters who are able to manage their time effectively and work with others collaboratively, using their excellent communications skills to develop effective working relationships with colleagues, contractors and, most importantly, our residents and customers. We are looking for an enthusiastic and experienced surveyor with a good standard of education; you'll have a HNC (or equivalent qualification) in a building related/construction subject and ideally, be a qualified retrofit assessor with recent experience of working in the housing sector. A driving licence is essential to this role as you'll need to travel as required (reasonable adjustments may be possible according to the Equality Act).

HR Support Apprentice (Fixed Term)

Are you looking to take your first steps in a HR career? If so, we have the ideal role for you! As a HR Support Apprentice you will be supporting the HR and Payroll team with a wide range of tasks including administrative, operational and project support, whilst also completing the Level 3 HR Support apprenticeship qualification with Exeter College. We are a busy team covering the full range of HR and payroll activities for East Devon District Council and Strata Service Solutions Ltd (an ICT company) and you will therefore gain knowledge and experience in all aspects of HR practice, from supporting with recruitment processes through to helping us to develop our apprenticeship programmes. As our HR apprentice, you will be responsible for developing an apprentice peer support programme within the Council, help us to develop our social media presence when advertising our jobs and promote apprenticeships internally and externally, including as part of our membership of the South West Apprenticeship Ambassador Network. We're looking for someone with a good standard of general education, including GCSEs in mathematics and English at Grade 5 or above and ideally A Levels at grade C or above, who can join us from early September 2023. Having a range of transferable skills developed through your full time education and perhaps previous work experience, including strong interpersonal, ICT and organisation skills, is essential. And of course, an awareness of the role of HR and an enthusiasm for a career in HR are key! You will be working in a supportive team who will help you to develop your knowledge, skills and experience alongside your apprenticeship studies.
