Live and Move Newsletter

May 2024

Welcome to our May newsletter.  From June onwards, we'll be using new software so your next newsletter may look a little different when it arrives in your inbox.

We’ll always aim to keep these updates brief but if you’d like to know more, just look at our website or get in touch with us.

Sport England bid

Phew!

The team at Live and Move, alongside partners and stakeholders, have been working hard on a recent bid to Sport England to become a ‘place partner’. If successful, this funding will ensure that Live and Move will grow and strengthen until 2028.

Whilst we’re waiting for the outcome, there’s still lots going on. We will of course let you know any decision as soon as we find out ourselves.

Wellbeing Exeter

Wellbeing Exeter

We are absolutely thrilled to formally announce that following a robust and lengthy procurement process, from 1 July Wellbeing Exeter will be managed by CoLab

You may remember that the contract with Devon Community Foundation will shortly come to an end, but thanks to support from Exeter City Council, East Devon District Council and Sport England, CoLab will continue to deliver the programme.

Find out more about Wellbeing Exeter by taking a look at their impact report, here.

Cranbrook

Cranbrook

We’ve recently been working with partners in Cranbrook, alongside our colleagues from the National Evaluation and Learning, to develop a Theory of Change.

A Theory of Change is essentially a plan – figuring out what you want to do, and then figuring out the steps needed to get there! We met with many Cranbrook stakeholders earlier this month and are now following up with further sessions. We’ll share the Theory of Change with you as soon as it’s ready.

Community leisure scheme

Leisure opportunity

We have recently begun work on a six-month pilot project offering access to leisure facilities to a small number of people referred by either their GP social prescriber or their contact at Wellbeing Exeter.

This is a closed pilot scheme at the moment, and one that we’re monitoring closely through regular participant surveys (thanks to our evaluation partner SERIO).

Thanks so much to partners from Wellbeing Exeter, the NHS and Exeter Leisure for helping to get this important project started.

Football success!

Football team

You might remember that we recently told you about the Stoke Hill U15s girl’s football team. Wearing the boys second hand kit didn’t exactly fill them with confidence, so we were very pleased to be able to help them to purchase their own match and training kits, resulting in the whole team creating their own identity.

It must have made a difference because these girls have just been in touch to let us know that they won their final.

Congratulations girls! We can’t wait to see what next season brings.

Mental Health Awareness Week

Sport in Mind walk

Thank you to everyone who told us about events taking place locally for Mental Health Awareness Week. We had a great time at a free walking event, organised by our friends at Sport in Mind.

Lots of people turned up for this free, one-hour walk, and it was brilliant to talk to everybody.

If you've got an event taking place in Exeter or Cranbrook that you think our readers would like to hear about, get in touch

Volunteer Awards

Volunteer Awards

Active Devon have told us that they’re launching their volunteer awards on 3 June – just in time for Volunteers’ Week.

These awards are for anyone who is an unpaid volunteer, helping other people across Devon to be more active. There are location-based award categories as well as two for young people and one for an outstanding contribution to volunteering.

The Active Devon website will be updated on 3 June with all the necessary nomination information.

If you work with any volunteers, why not nominate them for an award?
