“One of the most important things you can do on this earth is to let people know they are not alone”.
February 20 2025 is Adult Support and Protection Day. This annual awareness raising campaign acts as a reminder to all of us to act on any concerns they may have about vulnerable adults who could be at risk from harm, as well as who to contact.
Life can be tough for all of us. Cost of living challenges, employment or lack of it, worrying about our children, or our aging family members – sometimes it is hard work just to make it through the day. Although we expect to look out for children, it’s often harder to think about looking out for or protecting adults who may have difficulty taking care of themselves in challenging circumstances.
National Adult Support and Protection Day reminds us of the importance of taking care of the wellbeing and safety of our loved ones and the vulnerable adult members of our communities.

On behalf of the Ayrshire Adult Protection Committees, Susan Maguire said: “It's so important to protect and support people who are vulnerable and at potential risk of harm including financial harm.
"The adult protection committees across Ayrshire are united in our commitment to ensure that all services are doing what they need to do, to keep the citizens in our Ayrshire communities safe, protected and supported."

If you are concerned about someone over 16 years of age who:
- might not be getting enough to eat
- seems to have bruises suddenly
- used to be out and about but seems to stay home now
- looks like they stopped caring about themselves or their appearance
contact us on:
You do not need to be sure or have 'proof' - if you are concerned, get in touch.
Finally, although there is a day in recognition of adult protection - abuse or neglect can occur any time any day of the year. So let’s all do our part to keep all of our citizen’s safe today and everyday.
