White Ribbon pledge

White ribbon pledge

Most men do not commit violence against women. But all men have a role in ending it. If we all start by making a pledge never to commit, condone or remain silent about men’s violence against women in all its forms, that will make a huge difference.

Throughout the 16 Days of Action campaign there will be opportunities to sign the pledge and find out more about the White Ribbon campaign.

  • Launch at Kilmarnock Train station
    Monday 25 November, 12pm – 6pm
  • Kilmarnock Tesco, West Shaw Street, Kilmarnock
    Tuesday 26 November, 3pm – 5pm
  • East Ayrshire Community Hospital, Ayr Road, Cumnock
    Friday 6 December

On the evening of the 25 of November, East Ayrshire Council will light up the viaduct orange to mark the beginning of the 16 Days of Action Against Gender-Based Violence.

The colour symbolises hope and a brighter future free from violence against women and girls.

The campaign, running from 25 November (the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women) until 10 December, Human Rights Day, is a key international moment to call for an end to violence against women and girls.

This year’s programme of informative and inclusive events have been spearheaded by East Ayrshire’s Violence Against Women Partnership and are being supported by partner agencies.

Councillor Jim McMahon, East Ayrshire’s White Ribbon Champion, said: “Throughout the 16 Days of Action campaign we will be encouraging as many people as possible to support the White Ribbon Scotland pledge. By making this pledge, you will be showing others that it's okay to speak out against violence against women. The more we are willing to do this, the more we can help to change harmful attitudes that condone it.

“This is why the 16 Days campaign continues to be so important. It brings people together to work towards eliminating gender-based violence and encourages us all to take action to support women and girls in our communities."

The full programme of events can be found on the STAR Centre website.
