MOT testing in England

MOT testing in England

From Wednesday 2 December, England will move to a local restriction tier system.

This means that a series of restrictive measures will be in place to help stop the spread of coronavirus. Local restriction tiers will be reviewed every 14 days, with the first review on 16 December.

You can read more about the 3 tiers of local restrictions on GOV.UK.

What this means for MOT garages

MOT garages can remain open across all tiers in England.

To help ensure MOT testing can be conducted safely, you can read our guidance for MOT testers about operating safely during coronavirus.

Across all tiers, you and DVSA staff must wear a face covering in communal areas indoors eg: reception and retail areas. There are some exemptions from wearing a face covering.

DVSA’s MOT approvals and enforcement work will also continue.

A vehicle needs to have a valid MOT if it is being used, except for the journey to a pre-booked MOT.

Thank you

Thank you for continuing to follow COVID-19 secure testing procedures. This helps reduce the risk of transmission and protect the public, your staff and DVSA staff.

We will provide a further update if there is a change that affects our services.

You can find out more about the restrictions in your area, or an area you plan to visit, on GOV.UK.
