 Schools in Dumfries and Galloway will close on the day of HM Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral.
Buckingham Palace has confirmed the date of Her Majesty the Queen’s State Funeral as Monday 19, September. This date will also be a bank holiday to mark the last day of the period of National Mourning.
Council nurseries, primary and secondary schools across Dumfries and Galloway will close to allow children, teachers and other support staff to observe the official national day of mourning. Private nurseries and childminders will make their own arrangements and communicate directly with families.
His Majesty King Charles III approved the bank holiday across the UK at the ceremony in London proclaiming him as Monarch.
For anyone wishing to pay their respects, Books of Condolence are available at Council facilities across the region. An online Book of Condolence is also available on The Royal website at www.Royal.gov.uk.
