Welcome to the Dumfries Academy build project update.
We will be sending you regular updates to keep you informed with what is happening with the project.
An introduction to the project
Our council is committed to delivering outstanding education facilities, to offer our children, young people, and school staff the best environment for education and learning. The Dumfries Learning Town 2 project is a key part of this commitment across the region. The Dumfries Academy campus is unique. Unlike new builds, this building is steeped in history and has beautiful architecture and original features.
There are two projects that will run simultaneously that will impact on the Dumfries Academy campus. There will be a partial refurbishment of the Dumfries Academy site. £16.5 Million has been earmarked for these works. In addition, Loreburn Primary School will be relocated into the Minerva building on the Dumfries Academy site.
Architects appointed
BDP has been appointed as the successful design team for the Dumfries Academy build project. The company was appointed following presentations to Council officers, the Lead Project Officer (Director of Education and Learning) and the Head Teacher last month.
BDP’s vision is to be the world’s leading integrated architecture, engineering and design firm, delivering world class solutions which enhance the communities they serve. They have a reputation for the design of exemplar places of learning, illustrated by their award-winning schools.
BDP has been involved with a number of design and delivery of a number of education projects across Scotland including:
- Ayr Grammar
- Maidenhill Primary School and Nursery
- Marr College
- Eastwood High School
BDP has already started a series of consultation workshops involving primary pupils, high school pupils and staff. The purpose is to gather a range of views on the current school environment and facilities, what they would like from new facilities and the extended possibilities. These views will feed into the design proposals from BDP.
Here are a couple more images from the first consultation session.
