During this difficult time, it is more important than ever that we communicate with our local communities to keep them up to date on relevant announcements, updates to local services and provide advice on where to find additional support.
Dumfries and Galloway Council subscribe to telephone translations services which will help you to communicate effectively with members of the public where English isn’t their first language.
Language Line Solutions provides access to interpretation for more than 140 languages over the telephone.
Contact Scotland BSL provides telephone access for deaf BSL users throughout Scotland through an online BSL interpreting video relay service (VRS).
We would encourage to you to familiarise yourself with our Telephone Translations Intranet Page where you can find additional information on the services available and how to use them.
We are working with Sign Language Interactions to get some of our key messages translated into British Sign Language – these will be available on our website soon.
Our website now features an accessible page which provides links to information in a range of set-ups. It also has a ‘Recite-me’ toolbar allowing the user to customise the website to a format which is suitable for them. This includes features such as text enlargement, text to speech and translation into over 100 languages.
If you are out and about, please encourage our communities to make themselves aware of these new functions, to help them keep updated with all the great work our staff are doing.
If you have any questions, please email: EqualityandDiversity@dumgal.gov.uk
