Weekly Staff Briefing

14 November 2014

Welcome to this week's edition of Insider

This week, the county remembered more than 11,000 Devon men and women who died in the First World War and recognised the enormous contribution made by Devon residents.

There are some ICT services updates coming up that you need to be aware of, and on the subject of being aware, a phone scam has been brought to our attention by our Trading Standards team and Devon and Cornwall Police.

And we congratulate our long-serving foster carers who go above and beyond on a regular basis!

Contributions to Insider are always welcome - we look forward to hearing from you soon.

Spending cuts to continue says County Council Leader

There will be no let-up in the savings that local councils have to find over the next few years no matter who wins the General Election, Cllr John Hart is warning.

We are inviting people to help influence decisions about how future savings could be made via the Tough Choices website.

CLT goes paperless!

Each member of our Corporate Leadership Team (CLT) has been issued with an iPad to help reduce the amount of papers that they would normally have to work with.

They are all using the BoardPacks app as well, which facilities paperless meetings. Their meeting on Monday had a full agenda that otherwise would have required printing out over 80 pages per person attending

Devon Remembered

A two-minute silence was observed on Tuesday to mark the hundredth anniversary of the outbreak of the First World War. At County Hall this was marked by a ceremony attended by staff, senior officers, councillors, students from ICSA college and representatives from the Royal British Legion.

3000 voice recognition system

In order to bring our voicemail and 3000 system up to date and make it compliant with Public Services Network (PSN) regulations, we will be upgrading to the latest version on the evening of Tuesday 25 November from 6.00pm. While this work is being completed there will be a short period of downtime during which calls via 3000 and 5000 will fail.

The new version brings some additional features which will be implemented over the coming months. However, all previously stored settings and voicemail messages will be transferred from the previous version. You will notice that the login screen and home page will look slightly different. However all the current options will still be available. Please contact the Service Desk if you have any queries

Advance Notice of Email Downtime

ICT Services need to undertake some maintenance on our ‘old’ email and webmail service, Exchange 2003. As an old service, this does not currently meet the security standards necessary to be PSN compliant.  This needs to happen by 12 December.  To make Exchange 2003 compliant, ICT will need to take down various email servers. This work will start on Monday 17 November and will last until Sunday 23 November from 8.00pm - 10.00pm.

Will you be affected? (PDF Version)

Fibonacci upgrade

Do you run TRIM/CareFirst reports?

The Fibonacci reporting software will be upgraded at the end of Thursday 20 November, between 4.00pm and 5.00pm. You will not be able to use any Fibonacci templates during this time. If you try to do so, a log-in window will be displayed which you will need to close before you can continue.

The upgrade includes enhancement to the Child Chronology to retrieve information from TRIM as well as CareFirst. This will mean that running the Chronology will generally take a few seconds longer, but should regularly save hours of work by bringing the information together.

Any queries should be referred to the Social Care Service Desk on x2222 option 2

What a Plank!

With evidence that sitting for too long isn’t great for our health, it makes sense to try to build more activity into our working day. Our Early Years and Childcare team is doing just that, by taking part in the Plank Challenge.
