 This year (2015/16) a further saving of £50 million is required
as a result of the Government’s latest Comprehensive Spending Review.
This will be followed by a saving of at least £34 million in 2016/17.

County remembers the First World War
There are many ways to get involved and commemorate the
centenary of the First World War, and the Devon Remembers website is proving a
fantastic resource providing a wealth of information about local research
projects, commemorative events, and links to other organisations and
resources.
See how people across the county are getting together to share their stories and discover more ways to mark the anniversary (PDF version).

CLT meet outside the office
Our Corporate Leadership Team recently visited Cranbrook and the Science Park as part of a minibus and walking tour. The tour included: Phase 1 of Cranbrook, Younghayes Centre, the Primary School, Railway Station due to open early in 2015, Education campus under development, Phase 2 of Cranbrook, E-On Energy Centre to view the district heating system.
They also visited the Science Park where the Met Office's new super computer will be based.

Microsoft Exchange 2010 roll-out continues throughout November
ICT Services is
rolling out Exchange 2010 to all staff, updating your Outlook email service.
The Exchange 2010 migration will continue into November as planned, and so far approx. 2700
staff have been migrated. Don’t panic if you haven’t migrated yet, user
accounts are being migrated in alphabetical order (unless agreed otherwise).
To assist with the
roll-out, can you please make sure you close Outlook at the end of each working
day until you have been migrated. There may be a small delay in
Outlook fully opening the first time you use it after you have been updated to
Exchange 2010. More information (PDF version)

park inside the bay lines. Tailgating the barrier is not allowed so don’t
attempt this under any circumstance. If you do, it will result in a parking

Giving children the chance to grow
It’s National Adoption Week and it’s a double celebration!
Our
Devon Adoption team has won a major industry award as part of National
Adoption Week 2014 (3 November to 9 November). The British Association
of Adoption and Fostering (BAAF) has announced Devon Adoption as 'Local
Authority Adoption Team of the Year'.
And
to celebrate National Adoption Week 150 daffodil bulbs were planted
yesterday representing children waiting to be adopted at any one time in Devon.
We are working together with Plymouth City Council and Torbay Council
to encourage more people across the county to consider adoption.
We’ve been privileged to interview several Devon adopters, who all have their own personal journey to tell. They share their adoption stories

 Plans for new school in South Molton come a step closer
Plans for a new school in South Molton are set to come a step closer next week. Our Cabinet is being asked to spend £750,000 on a site for a new building to replace South Molton’s outdated junior school.

#NOBLURREDLINES - Rape awareness campaign
This week Devon and Cornwall Police has launched a new campaign targeted at students and young people to help change attitudes to sexual offences.
The #NOBLURREDLINES campaign will target men and women aged between 16-37 to educate and inform them that sex without consent is rape.

Top marks
for Devon Highways
The Department of Transport has provided
feedback which shows that our bid to the Pothole Fund was one of the
strongest.
The Council received just over
£9 million from the Government’s Pothole Repair Fund after successfully bidding
for a share of £168 million, following the wettest winter on record.
In feedback from the DfT, Devon
was ranked joint first out of three of the four aspects of the application
process, and was joint second overall out of the 148 authorities considered.
Altogether, with an additional
£7 million from the Severe Weather Recovery fund, Devon has received an extra
£16 million this year from the Government to carry out highway repairs. The
funding is being used to repair around 120 miles (193km) of roads across the
county

Parkruns are up and running across the county!
With support from Active Devon, Cornwall Sports Partnership and the
South West Lakes Trust, Parkruns are popping up in more and more
locations across the county. The key to the success of Parkrun is that it is totally managed by local volunteers.
