Last month, we conducted employer meetings in Devon and Somerset, offering both online and in-person options. We collected feedback from attendees to understand what was beneficial and identify areas for improvement for future meetings.
When asked to rate the event, 77% of participants gave it a score of 8 or above out of 10. Additionally, 65% indicated they would recommend us to a friend or colleague by giving a score of 8 or above. While these results are encouraging, they also highlight areas where we can continue to improve.
Some topics that attendees felt were not adequately covered included:
- An explanation of employer discretions policies and their impact on employees
- A detailed reminder for attendees about specific responsibilities and required policies.
- More information on our processes and timelines, particularly regarding new starter packs and transfers.
- A comprehensive explanation of MSS to help employers guide their employees in the future.
- While the actuary’s talk was very informative, some attendees found it a bit confusing. Providing pre-reading materials or a booklet could have helped improve understanding.
We also wanted to sincerely apologise for the technical difficulties experienced during the Devon meeting. Please be assured that we are committed to addressing these issues ahead of future events.
There was a significantly higher turnout for online events compared to in-person, however, some employers commented that they found the in-person events to be very valuable, including ability to network. Online attendees appreciated the accessibility and thanked the speaker for being mindful of their presence, especially during the Q&A sessions.

Please do not complete the leaver spreadsheet if members are leaving your employment and transferring to another employer under TUPE. These members are not true leavers and so the LGPS membership should continue but if we receive a leaver form, the members pension record will be closed. Please follow the process outlined on our website instead and make sure your payroll provider is doing as requested.

In the new year Devon County Council including Devon Pension fund will be moving to a new financial and Income management system. Further details will follow as we get closer to “Go-Live”. We encourage Employers to ensure that their payments and EAS5 BACS totals match to ease the auto allocation of income. If you make a payment relating to an invoice please ensure you quote the invoice number in the payment details.

The LGA have released their 2025 training events which include a training course on the Employer Role. The training events are available for booking via the LGA events website.
Each course page includes comprehensive details, including the course programme, pricing information and a link to secure your place. Please note that bookings are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, and for fairness, each topic is capped at five delegates per organisation.
If you are unable to secure a place on a course or require more than five places, please email training.lgps@local.gov.uk with the following details: the course you wish to attend, the number of places required and your preferred format (online or in-person); they will maintain a waitlist and, depending on demand, may consider offering additional training sessions.
We encourage you to book early to ensure your place on your preferred courses. A list of the dates are shown below.
