Ashleigh Christmas

Introduction

Happy Christmas to all our Proud to Care Ambassadors.  Thank you for all your hard work in 2019, promoting careers in the health and social care sector.

We have just heard that the Devon STP joint health and social care recruitment group have secured funding from Health Education England (HEE).  This funding will be allocated to local shared recruitment events in February-March 2020 (dates to be confirmed very soon) for the Trusts, social care, primary care and Further Education colleges/universities to promote health and social care careers, education and jobs throughout Devon.  We look forward to involving some of our Ambassadors at these events.  In addition, the HEE funding will go to a Proud to Care Devon campaign in Spring 2020, which will focus on promoting clinical/professional/registered careers in the health and social care sector.

Enjoy the festivities!

Sally-Ann Turner

Ambassador section - Alex Hatton, Proud to Care team

Alex

My name is Alex Hatton and I am a Graduate Trainee in the Proud to Care team. I was new to the health and social care sector when I started and I have really enjoyed learning about all the important and varied roles within the sector.

I have attended two events as a Proud to Care Ambassador so far at the University of Exeter and Exeter School. I really enjoyed talking to students at these events and helping guide their enthusiasm in the subject to a career that would suite them. As a recent graduate I remember how important it was to hear from people doing the job roles you dreamed of doing tell you how it can become a reality. Both the students and parents were surprised and happy to hear about the range of roles and students who didn’t think a career in health and social care was for them were intrigued by roles they’d never heard of before.

Attending these events has really helped to build my confidence and have been useful for networking. It has been good to feel like I am helping these students navigate their way through the complex world of careers. At these events I’ve spoken to students who have then gone on to apply for work experience and job roles with local providers here in Devon.

For anyone wondering whether to sign up to attend an event or not, I’d say do it! It’s not as scary as it seems and you’ll have a great time talking to someone just as interested in the sector as you are!

Ambassador Expenses
