f40 MPs write to Chancellor Philip Hammond to ask for fairer and increased education funding

Message from Karen Westcott, Secretary to the f40 Group

More than 80 MPs from the f40 local authority areas have sent a letter to Chancellor Philip Hammond urging him to consider fairer and increased education funding during the Comprehensive Spending Review later this year.

The  L E T T E R  was organised by our three f40 vice chairs, MPs Gary Streeter (Cons), Laura Smith (Lab) and Layla Moran (Lib Dems), and countersigned by a number of MPs who represent some of the lowest funded areas for education across the country. READ MORE about the letter on the f40 website.

P R E S S   R E L E A S E  about the letter was issued on 1 July and sent to the national media - you may wish to use the release on your school website and tailor it to your area and local media.

Additionally, please see below some different edits of the f40 video which you may like to use on your website and social media channels. The main video features three headteachers from Cheshire, Devon and North Yorkshire, talking about the issues with the National Funding Formula and what the funding crisis means to them on a daily basis. Please share / retweet:

  • Watch main video (For PCs)
  • Watch the short video featuring Paul Gosling, Headteacher at Exeter Road Community Primary School

A second  P R E S S   R E L E A S E  has gone out to the media on 15 July from the education funding collaboration group, which includes f40, NEU, NAHT and ASCL.  This press release is about the funding we all believe should be set aside for schools up to 2022/23.

It is the first time the groups have come together to agree funding figures and is the result of several months of collaboration and meetings to pin down the funding we all believe is necessary for education. Crucially, these figures are in line with the bottom-up formula that f40 has always used when looking at how much schools should be given.

Please feel free to share it on your websites and social media or use it with your local media.

The collaboration group is then holding an MPs’ briefing in London next Wednesday morning to share their figures and explain how they were arrived at. The media is also being invited. f40 Chairman James McInnes, Executive member Margaret Judd, and Secretary Karen Westcott will be at that briefing representing the f40 group.
