OFSTED New Inspection Framework Published Ofsted has published the outcome of the consultation on its new education inspection framework. It will focus on curriculum, behaviour and development. The Education Framework sets out Ofsted's inspection principles and the main judgements that inspectors make.  It applies from September 2019, and can be viewed HERE The School Inspection Handbook for  maintained schools and academies in England under the education inspection framework, for use from September 2019, can be viewed HERE The Early Years Inspection Handbook (EIF) for  registered early years and childcare providers under the education inspection framework, for use from September 2019, can be viewed HERE The Section 8 School Inspection Handbook (EIF) for Ofsted inspectors, for use from September 2019, can be viewed HERE

Retaining Ofsted's Current Grading System in Education

This report sets out the arguments and evidence for keeping Ofsted’s existing 4-point grading system. 

OFSTED Blog - Off-rolling & Inspection of Outstanding Schools A new post, “What is off-rolling, and how does Ofsted look at it on inspection?” has just been published on the Ofsted blog by Dan Owen HMI, Specialist Adviser for school inspection policy. A new post, “Dan Lambert HMI on the inspection of exempt outstanding schools” has just been published on the Ofsted blog.  Her Majesty’s Inspector (HMI) Dan Lambert explains why Outstanding rated schools are not inspected routinely, and what happens when they do inspect them.

The Timpson Review of School Exclusions Published The Timpson review explored how headteachers use exclusion, and why pupils with particular characteristics are more likely to be excluded from school. The review gathered substantial evidence through submissions to the call for evidence and engagement with many organisations and individuals, including schools, local authorities, parents and children. The Report makes 30 recommendations. The government response sets out a programme of work to respond to the recommendations. The full report and response can be viewed HERE

Funding Increases to Teachers’ Pensions Employer Contributions Consultation Response Published

The Department for Education (DfE) has published the response to the public consultation on the impact of the increase in employer contribution rate of the Teachers’ Pension Scheme (TPS) from 16.4% to 23.6%.

SEND and AP provision: call for evidence Call for evidence on the financial arrangements for children and young people with special educational needs and disability (SEND) and those who need alternative provision (AP). The consultation is open until 31 July 2019.

LGA & EFSA Survey on School Apprenticeships The Local Government Association (LGA) and Education & Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) are undertaking work for Devon County Council around how participation in apprenticeships in schools can be increased in Community & Voluntary Controlled School only.
