To all Headteachers / Principals
We are concerned that
recently school attendance of Children in Care has declined.
To address this issue we
ask that:
- Our

95%. This information will be passed to our Area Learning
Advocates who will follow this up with the relevant Social Worker.
- When
a Child in Care fails to arrive for school on any given day, that you
contact their Foster Carer, on the same day, to ascertain the reason for
non-attendance.

Staggering into September - message from Fran Butler, Early Years and Childcare Sufficiency Lead
A yearly reminder that parents have a right to full time education in Foundation on the first day of term. Now that many children have 30 hours of funded Early Years provision a week (and several also buy additional hours) they are better prepared to start school full time. Each year the EYCS has calls and messages from parents complaining that:
- they cannot find childcare to enable them to work because schools insist on a staggered start, - they cannot afford to pay for childcare - they cannot take time off work to look after their child - their child has had an extremely long break as they attended a term time only early years provider.
