PREVENT Steering Group Meeting  |  October 2017

Feedback to schools from the meeting held on 2 October 2017 included:-

    • Be curious
    • Be proactive in monitoring any travel to Syria or Iraq  (also some parts of Africa including Libya, Nigeria and Chad) and raising awareness and engaging with families.  Procedures should be in place so that relevant Prevent, or safeguarding, referrals be made should there be any known travel.
    • Schools to ensure Prevent training is kept up to date and all staff and volunteers are aware of their role in being vigilant.  E-training is available.  Wrap training can be adapted and not read from the script (put it in a local context)
    • Schools to be diligent in reporting missing children.
    • Schools to ensure policies re use of social media are clear e.g. staff and children acceptable users.

    School Term Dates

It has come to light that some parents are basing holiday plans on information available on third party websites (termdates.co.uk and schoolholidays.co.uk) around term dates which do not necessarily correlate to individual Devon schools.
