Invitation to the Learning Scientists visit at Uffculme School
Tuesday 27 June 2017
message from Nikki Able, Deputy Headteacher at Uffculme School
On 27th June, we will be welcoming
the Learning Scientists to Uffculme School. The Learning Scientists
are cognitive psychological scientists based in Boston USA interested in
research on education. Their main research focus is on the science of learning.
(Hence, "The Learning Scientists"!). Their vision is to make
scientific research on learning more accessible to students, teachers, and
other educators.
The aim of their work is to motivate students
to study, the use of effective study and teaching strategies that are
backed by research and decrease negative views of testing.
They are visiting Uffculme School
as part of their UK tour to work with our year 10 students and present as the
keynote at our TeachMeet. I wanted to invite you to send a colleague(s)
either to our free TeachMeet event or to slightly more bespoke CPD option. I am
offering colleagues from local schools the opportunity to observe the session
with year 10, have an optional tour of the school and attend a Q&A with the
Learning Scientists (lunch included) for £30. Places are limited so if you or a
colleague is interested in attending this event, please get in touch ablen@uffculmeschool.net.

Stakeholder engagement :
Reprocurement of school aged immunisation services
Note: the online survey deadline is
extended to TODAY (Friday 5 May 2017)
You may be aware that NHS England has recently announced its
intention to recommission immunisation services for school aged children across
a large part of the South West (Plymouth to South Gloucestershire) as many of
the contracts are due to expire in 2018. This will include:
- Seasonal
flu immunisation for children in primary schools in the following local
authority areas: South Gloucestershire, Bristol, North Somerset, Somerset,
Devon, Torbay, Plymouth.
- HPV,
MenACWY and teenage booster immunisation in 4 local authority areas:
Somerset, Devon, Torbay, Plymouth.
This procurement
represents a real opportunity to address historical inconsistencies in service
models that currently exist across the local school aged immunisation services,
as well as ensuring that services are in a position to increase uptake and
reduce health inequalities. There are a number of key decisions that we need to
make in the coming months around future configuration of the services and your
views are important to us.
An online survey has
been developed to gather stakeholders’ views and help inform the decision
making process - visit the O N L I N E S U R V E Y

Parent Engagement | Fairer Funding for Devon School
With the Fairer Funding campaign continuing, and in light of both local and national elections, schools are urged to encourage their parent communities to become more vocal when approached by their local MPs. The DASH Executive committee have come up with a suggested list of 'parent friendly' questions, please cascade via your school newsletters:-
-
what is the
increase in per pupil funding in education?
- how will you
protect this going forward:?
- what will
you do to stop my local school cutting staff?
- what will you do to stop my local school from
having bigger class sizes?
