Child abuse. If you think it, report it.

Child Abuse Campaign logo

We all have a role to play in protecting children and young people from child abuse and neglect.

Many people do not act because they’re worried about being wrong.

You don’t have to be absolutely certain about your suspicions; if you’re concerned a child is being abused or their safety is at risk, speak to someone.

Following these simple steps and reporting your concerns to your local children’s social care team could provide the missing piece of information that is needed to keep a child safe.

For guidance on how to spot the signs of child abuse or neglect, what to do if you suspect and what happens when you report it  |  READ MORE

The advice to anyone in Devon who may have suspicions of child abuse or neglect is to contact Devon’s Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) on 0345 155 1071 and staff will offer support to determine the right response. Alternatively email: mashsecure@devon.gcsx.gov.uk and give as much information as you can.

Worried about a child's safety? Visit T H I S  L I N K  to the Devon County Council website for more information and how to report your concerns.

New guidance on 'Sexting'

New guidance for police forces has been released by the National Police Chiefs Council (NPCC) and UK Council for Child Internet Safety (UKCCIS) in response to ‘youth produced sexual imagery’, commonly referred to as “sexting” or ‘’sending nudes’’ amongst young people. This  L E T T E R  seeks to inform you of the action that both Devon and Cornwall Police and Dorset Police will take in response to any reports made where the individuals involved are 17 years of age and under.

Please ensure this letter is circulated amongst your staff, schools you work with and other colleagues, specifically your designated safeguarding leads.

Westminster

Post Westminster Attack  |  message from Samantha Norman, Devon and Cornwall Police

I heard today of a few schools, elsewhere in the country, who have withdrawn from pre-planned mosque visits or not booking visits they would otherwise book in light of what happened in London recently. I hope that wouldn’t happen here but in case there is any confusion:

There is NO INCREASE in risk from terrorism, nor any increase in risk from Muslims, the Muslim community or mosques. Visits to mosques are a great way to increase understanding and tolerance between communities and reduce intolerance, hatred and terrorism.
