DAPH Event  |  Multi Academy Trusts: High Impact Collaboration

Planning is well underway for our next event 'Multi Academy Trusts: High Impact Collaboration' which will provide an understanding of the political direction of travel towards academisation and also provide the audience with the opportunity to hear advice and guidance in terms of making effective choices when looking at MATs.

Confirmed speakers are:

  • Rebecca Clark  |  SW Regional Schools Commissioner
  • Eileen Barnes-Vachell  |  Head of School Effectiveness, Babcock Education
  • Rob Kelsall  |  Senior Regional Officer, NAHT
  • Carl Haggerty  |  Chair of Governors at Countess Wear Community School and DCC Digital Communications Strategic Lead

We shall also be looking at the various different pathways, with case studies presented by Devon Headteachers who will give an overview of their own personal journey.

This is a F R E E event, subsidised by DAPH and is offered at no cost to Headteachers and Governors from Devon LA maintained schools. However due to expected demand, booking is essential and limited to two free places per school. Additional places are available to purchase at cost price (£50) and are non-refundable.

Mike Hughes will be delivering a one day workshop at the Tiverton Hotel on Tuesday 28 June 2016.

The main areas of focus will include:

  • practical strategies that both engage and excite
  • teaching for understanding
  • getting the balance between achieving examination and Ofsted success AND teaching lessons that are interesting and enjoyable
  • switching the emphasis from occupied to engaged, knowing to understanding, teaching to learning
  • using the Magenta Principles to improve questioning
  • implications for professional development

N E W  |  DAPH Academies Conference  |  12 October 2016 at
The Saunton Sands Hotel, North Devon

The DAPH Academies Conference will take place ahead of the DAPH Annual School Leadership Conference, and is a follow on from the June event. Existing academy leaders will be given the opportunity to discuss emerging issues directly with Sir David Carter, and the afternoon will host a variety of case studies to explain the 'need to know' on the conversion process. We are also hopeful that a representative from FASNA (Freedom and Autonomy for Schools - National Association) will be presenting on the day.

C O S T  |  This event is subsidised by DAPH and is offered at no cost to Headteachers, Governors/Trustees and School Business Managers from schools and academies within Devon LA (up to a maximum of 3 places per school / MAT).

James Nottingham is the founder and executive director of Challenging Learning. His passion is in transforming the most up-to-date research into strategies that really work in the classroom. He has been described by Skolvärlden (Swedish Teaching Union) as “one of the most talked about names in the world of school development.”

His first book, Challenging Learning has been published in 5 languages and has received widespread critical acclaim. His follow-up book, Encouraging Learning, supports his work with parents and community groups, as well as with teachers and leaders. Currently he is writing a series of books to share the best strategies for feedback, challenge, dialogue, progress and metacognition.
