NEW SCHOOLS EXTRANET - IMPORTANT INFORMATION
Derbyshire County Council sent this bulletin at 12-10-2012 01:48 PM BST
NEW SCHOOLS EXTRANET
As you have already been informed a new Schools Extranet site is due to be launched in October 2012 that will require the issuing of new usernames and passwords to all users of the site.
The reason for launching the new Schools Extranet site is that the current site is a component of the EMBC network for which the contract and hence its availability ends on 31 October 2012.
The new site will be available to all schools, regardless of choices made for broadband connectivity and applications, so there will be no loss of Schools Extranet service, although some schools who have left their internet network migration to the last minute (i.e. October) may lose access temporarily for a few days.
The new Schools Extranet should be similar in “look and feel” and functionality to the current site; however there will be a cap on the number of users that will be given access to the site.
INFORMATION FOR SCHOOLS ONLY
Work will start on Monday, 15 October 2012 to set up a new Schools Extranet as the EMBC contract is due to end. The eBulletin on Monday 15 October will be the last one until after the half term holidays. You will be notified when the new site will be available on 22 October 2012 and you will be asked to remove any shortcuts you have set up to current site.
Access to the new extranet will be limited to designated members of staff within your school who will be responsible for cascading information to other members of staff as required.
The members of staff, who have been nominated by the head teacher of your school to have access, will receive details of the new access arrangements, including secure area access, during week commencing 22 October 2012.
If your school has not has not returned the form notifying us of who within your school needs access to the new Schools Extranet please return it matter of urgency.
INFORMATION FOR SCHOOLS UNDERTAKING LATE MIGRATION TO NEW INTERNET NETWORK PROVIDER IN OCTOBER 2012 ONLY
Schools in the late EMPSN migration cohort (i.e. those migrating from the EMBC network to the EMPSN (Capita) network on 13/14 October 2012) will unfortunately lose access to the Schools Extranet for five to ten days commencing 15 October 2012.
We have put alternative arrangements in place to e mail urgent communications and documents to these schools during this period. We will of course work to restore access in as short a period of time as possible for these schools.
Internet and e mail account access should continue to be available during this period.
INFORMATION FOR CAYA DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES AND OTHER LA DEPARTMENT EMPLOYEES WITH ACCESS TO SCHOOLS EXTRANET ONLY
All CAYA employees and LA department employees with access to current Schools Extranet will lose it on week commencing 22 October 2012.
Due to the limited number of licences for the Schools Extranet we will be contacting CAYA Heads of Service and asking them to nominate key staff who will have access to new Schools Extranet which will be made available during week commencing 22 October 2012.
If you work for a department other than CAYA and want to retain access to the Schools Extranet could you please e mail caya.information.enquiries@derbyshire.gov.uk with a brief outline of why you need it.
