Markham Vale - An Environment for Success

Welcome to the latest issue of our Markham Vale e-newsletter. As usual there’s lots of exciting developments to read about.

Art Exhibition at The Environment Centre

Staveley Town Deal art 2

The Environment Centre is hosting a fantastic art exhibition over the next few weeks; you are welcome to call in and view the collection.

The pieces were created by the children and staff of Norbriggs Primary School during Summer 2024. All classes, from nursery to Year 6, designed and made one of the pieces of work. The images represent the flowers, trees, birds and butterflies which can be found in the Mastin Moor area of Staveley. The colours used represent the Staveley Town Deal logo.

The idea behind the work is that a single entity, whether it is a community, or a piece of work, is better if it is made up of many individual contributions. Look carefully for names or fingerprints embedded in the artworks. The children loved the fact that their work was unique and individual to them. These pieces of artwork were digitised and used to create the hoardings design for the Construction Skills Hub, one of the Staveley Town Deal projects. The project was facilitated by Helen Brightmore who is the Staveley Town Deal Programme Coordinator.

Staveley Waterside progress

As reported in last month’s newsletter Triton Construction had just started erecting the first sections of the steel framework.  The month of October saw much more of the framework erected to give an impressive outline of the building.

Waterside

The image was provided by Ivan Fomin, Chair of the Staveley Town Deal Board and Managing Director of Markham Vale based MSE Hiller.

Other works saw the installation of the pre-cast concrete stairs and the laying of kerbs and tarmac to the entrance road.

Over the coming weeks the contractor is planning to install the metal deck and concrete pour to the first floor whilst also installing roof sheeting and wall cladding.  Other works to start will include masonry works and the installation of an attenuation tank.

Support for your recruitment needs

The Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire team of Workpays have some funding available to help support businesses at Markham Vale with their recruitment needs; all free of charge!

Workpays do this by delivering a Customer Services qualification L1 from their centre in Chesterfield and inviting the employer to speak with the cohort of learners about their vacancy on the last day of training.

They have recently successfully worked with a major employer recently who came along to chat to the learners about their Customer Service Assistant vacancies.  Everyone who achieved the qualification was offered an interview at a later date.

Is this of interest to your business?  If so contact Lesley Winnard of Workpays – by email lesley.winnard@workpays.co.uk or by telephone on 07341 864020

Is your business looking to raise external investment?

The East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) have announced that they will be hosting the second in a series of high growth focused investment ready workshops for 15 selected ambitious businesses in December.

This fully funded workshop will be run by FundingHero, the Midlands based specialist high growth investment readiness provider. This initiative is being sponsored by East Midlands Combined County Authority, British Business Bank and Barclays Eagle Labs to specifically support businesses who are looking to raise their first or second major external funding round for Pre Seed to Series A companies to allow them to expand and scale.

These in-person workshops will provide access to high growth funding and CFO level scaleup expertise that may not normally be attainable to businesses based on their stage of growth.

The workshops will cover four key areas: Fundraise Planning, Financial Strategy, Fundraise Budget and Fundraise Timeline, so businesses understand the rigours of the process when planning to raise external investment from the range of different funding sources of debt and equity.

Alongside this, an exclusive twelve-month licence to the FundingHero investment readiness platform will be provided to the 15 selected workshop participants and a further one hundred one-month licences will be made available to interested parties considering raising external investment to grow and scale.

The event will be held at the University of Nottingham, Jubilee campus on Thursday 5 December 2024

There are 15 places available which will be allocated 2 weeks before the workshop. We will let you know if you have been chosen as one of the 15 businesses to attend the workshop and the twelve-month licence to the FundingHero investment readiness platform. Information on accessing the one-month licence will be sent to you in the order confirmation message.
