Here's something to look forward to – Shine a Light is a series of magical large-scale projections that will light up Derbyshire landmarks this autumn and winter. Why not book ahead?
 You'll experience an after-dark spectacular that your whole family can enjoy, with awe-inspiring animations and live musical performances.
This year Shine a Light visits Elvaston Castle near Derby, Barrow Hill Roundhouse in Chesterfield, the National Trust’s Hardwick Hall near Chesterfield and Cromford Mills near Matlock.
The projections are unique to each venue, so if you watch all four displays – and successfully spot the ‘hidden animal’ at each – you'll have the chance to enter a prize draw to win a hamper of local produce.
You'll also be able to enjoy entertainment, food and drink. Tickets are £9 for adults and £6 for children aged 4-16. Under-fours go free.

The long school summer holidays can mean that your child's reading level drops. The Summer Reading Challenge is designed to stop that.
It also introduces children to all the brilliant things our libraries can offer them – events, activities, computers and, of course, loads of books to borrow for free.
This year’s challenge has a science theme to inspire your child's imagination.
Children can buddy up with the Gadgeteer characters and read or listen to any six library books over the summer holidays and be rewarded every step of the way with stickers, and they'll get a medal and certificate if they complete the challenge too.

Schools are set to benefit from a share of more than £9.6m for improvements that we're funding.
The funding will pay for improvements including window and door replacements, rewiring and playground resurfacing at more than 40 schools across Derbyshire.

If you live or commute around Chesterfield and Clay Cross, we'd like to know what you think about a project to manage congestion and reduce emissions on the A61 Derby Road in the area.
A 10-minute survey has been launched to find out how people use the road, their views on potential options to improve it in the short, medium and long-term, as well as options for alternative ways to travel.
If you're a parent of young children we're offering you a chance to get their car seats checked by experts.
Our road safety officers and a car seat fitting expert will be on hand to offer safety advice and information at a variety of locations in July and August.
Motorists will be offered free checks to make sure their child’s car seats are fitted correctly and appropriate for the child’s age and height and the make and model of the car. Seats can be checked without the child present.

Make a note in your diary of the dates of our Woodland Festival if you fancy a great day in a beautiful setting. This will be the 21st birthday of the perennially popular event and it takes place on Sat 17 and Sun 18 September at Elvaston Castle Country Park. At the heart of the Festival is a celebration of traditional and contemporary woodland crafts but there’s much more on offer.
Watch the expert craftsmen and women at work from wood carving and turning to willow weaving, bushcraft and furniture making. There’s the chance to have a go at some of these skills yourselves. Plus there’s art, sculpture and a wide range of stalls.
There’s ample food and drink on offer, unique items to buy and the setting within the grounds and woodland at Elvaston lets visitors explore the formal gardens, lakes and parkland that surround the castle. Those arriving at the Festival on foot, bike or by public transport get free admission. Otherwise you pay a car parking charge of £15 per car/ £7.50 per motorcycle for the day. There is a £20 weekend ticket available too. Payment is cash only.
