Care home residents receive vaccine

Ivy Dawson at Goyt Valley House

Residents across our care homes are among the first people in Derbyshire to receive the much awaited vaccine against Covid-19.

Among them was 99-year-old Covid survivor Ivy Dawson who has lived at our Goyt Valley House home for more than two years.

Ivy recovered from coronavirus in May and received the vaccine on Monday alongside the home’s residents and staff.

If you’re in an eligible group for the Covid-19 vaccine, you’ll be keen to know when you’ll receive it.

You'll be contacted by the NHS when your vaccine is available, we’re encouraging residents to avoid contacting their surgery in the meantime.

Remember we must continue to stay at home and when popping out for essentials keep following hands, face, space.

More testing stations open across Derbyshire

Community testing

Further community testing stations are opening up across the county for people who don’t have symptoms.

Around 1 in 3 people who have coronavirus don’t have symptoms, so this testing helps identify those people so they don’t spread the virus.

Anyone over the age of 11 and living in Heanor, Loscoe, Langley Mill, Shipley and Smalley can now get a free test at the William Gregg VC Leisure Centre. The station will be open until Wednesday 24 February.

Heading north of the county, two more stations will open on Monday (18 January) for residents of Shirebrook and South Normanton.

The Shirebrook testing centre is for those living in the town or in Whaley Thorns, Langwith, Scarcliffe or Pleasley. The South Normanton centre for those in the town or in Blackwell, Pinxton or Westhouses.

You can find more information on community testing and the location and opening times of our stations on our website.

Libraries in Derbyshire are continuing to support children, families and other borrowers during the third lockdown.

The service is still running events for youngsters and adults but they are taking place online via Facebook and Twitter.

This month's events for children include story time, rhyme time, activity club and family bookshare.

Among the adult events are sessions on how to use digital tools like BorrowBox and PressReader, and how to use the library catalogue.

Voices from the Peak

Peak District snow

It’s the 70th birthday of the Peak District National Park on 17 April and as part of the celebrations we're supporting a project by Matlock Bath-born poet and recording artist Mark Gwynne Jones.

‘Voices from the Peak’ is a series of audio artworks that take the listener on a journey through the Peak District in words and sounds with local people recounting some of their experiences.

The county council has supported the project and two of the chapters are available now. Chapter two features local people’s memories and stories of challenging winters in the Peak District.
