Derbyshire remains in Tier 3

tier 3

Tier 3 restrictions are to remain in place across the whole of Derbyshire following the latest Government review of Covid alert levels.

The decision to keep Derbyshire at the ‘very high’ alert level was taken because there has been a rapid rise in the number of cases.

It means that up until 23rd December and after 27th – either side of the five day Christmas bubble period – we must all continue to follow the national restrictions in place for Tier 3 areas.

Community Testing

community testing

Derbyshire is set to roll out community testing from Monday (21 December).

Previously known as mass testing, community testing is for people who do not have symptoms.

This will help us understand how many people are infected but do not show any symptoms, support those who have Covid to self-isolate and to reduce infection rates.

Testing will begin in Swadlincote in South Derbyshire on Monday with Bolsover and other areas where the severity of infection is greatest to follow in the New Year.

Christmas Recycling

xmas recycling

At Christmas we create more waste than at any other time of year but our nine household waste recycling centres are there all year round to help you recycle as much of it as you can!

They are only closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day. Otherwise they are open daily from 8.30am to 6pm. Please remember that social distancing measures remain in place to help residents and staff stay safe.

It’s a good idea to get your stuff sorted before you travel to your local recycling centre. Take a look at what we can and can't accept on our website.

Care staff receive new vaccine

ch

One of our care workers was first in line for the new Covid-19 vaccine this week.

Carolyn Chittim has been a care worker in Swadlincote with us for 37 years.

She received the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine at the Royal Derby Hospital.

By taking the vaccine, Carolyn is not only protecting herself but she’s protecting the many elderly and vulnerable people she looks after on a daily basis.

We’d like to thank Carolyn and all our care workers who are doing a fantastic job at helping keep Derbyshire safe throughout the pandemic.

Bird flu case confirmed in South Derbyshire

find out more

If you keep birds you'll need to know about an outbreak of bird flu in South Derbyshire.

Avian influenza, also known as bird flu, was confirmed this week and a 3km Protection Zone and 10km Surveillance Zone have been put in place around the infected premises to limit the risk of the disease spreading.

Our trading standards officer are working closely with Derby City Council, DEFRA and the Animal Plant Health Agency to help control the outbreak.
