A new three-tier alert system to tackle coronavirus has been introduced by the Government. But what does this mean for Derbyshire?
Areas are being categorised as being at medium, high or very high risk of coronavirus.
The Glossopdale area in the High Peak is currently at high risk of coronavirus (known as ‘tier 2’) with tighter restrictions in place. Chesterfield, North East Derbyshire and Erewash will be placed at high risk tomorrow (Saturday 17 October).
If you live in these high risk areas here are some of the rules you must follow:
- Indoors: don’t mix households or support bubbles indoors
- Outdoors: only meet up with people outdoors in groups of up to 6
- Reduce the number of journeys you make where you can
The rest of Derbyshire remains at medium risk but it’s so important we all stay vigilant and follow the rules for medium risk areas: wash your hands, wear a face covering where required, keep social distancing and stick to the rule of 6.
You can find out more about the detailed restrictions for each level on our website along with a postcode checker for Derbyshire addresses. Just type in your postcode to find out whether medium or high restrictions are in force in your area.
If you’re self-isolating we know it can leave you feeling anxious and lonely.
We’ve pulled together some useful resources on our website to help you through your period of isolation.
You can access emotional and practical support, as well as financial help in the form of a £500 payment if you're eligible.

Derbyshire primary schools are doing their bit for Stoptober by signing up to our SmokeFree school gates initiative.
The initiative encourages parents to not smoke in the playground or school gate areas.
Already 23 primary schools have put up eye-catching banners, created by their pupils, asking parents to go SmokeFree.

Library users will be able to request books from branches across the county again later this month as the service takes another step towards business as usual.
The request service was halted in March, but from Monday people will be able to start requesting books not currently held at their local library.
Throughout the pandemic the service has continued to buy new titles which will be widely available, although due to essential book quarantining measures, requested items may take a little longer to arrive.
