ASC inspectors needed for COVID-19 survey research
We need to speak to ASC inspectors to help us improve a survey, similar to the Domiciliary Care Agency (DCA) survey, which will be sent to Shared Lives, Extra Care and Supported Living services, to understand how they are coping during COVID-19. We are looking to speak to inspectors who have these services in their portfolio or an understanding of how these work. These sessions will last 20-30 minutes on Teams on 1 or 2 June. Please email experience.research@cqc.org.uk with your availability if you would be interested in taking part.
Guidance for contacts of people with possible or confirmed coronavirus (COVID-19) infection who do not live with the person
Public Health England has published new guidance for people who have been notified by NHS Test and Trace that they are a contact of a person who has had a positive test result for coronavirus (COVID-19). See GOV.UK.
Risk assessments for NHS staff
NHS Employers has published updated risk assessment guidance, which provides ‘practical measures to advance the way risk assessments are carried out for Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME), at risk, and other vulnerable staff groups working across the NHS’ during COVID-19. See NHS Employers website.
Resumption of dental services in England
The Chief Dental Officer has written to all dental practices in England to set out the resumption of dental services from 8 June. Read the letter.
Principles of safe video consulting in general practice during COVID-19
NHS England and the Royal College of General Practitioners have published guidance aimed at NHS general practice staff who are consulting via video with patients at home. See NHS England website.
Recordings of this week's calls
Mark Sutton, Chief Digital Officer, stood in for Ian Trenholm on today's call. Greta Evans, PMS Inspector, joined us again to speak about the volunteer work she and others in her village in Cambridgeshire have been doing to support vulnerable people and to boost community spirit. Listen to a recording. A recording of Wednesday's all-colleagues call is still available. A recording of this week's leaders and team leaders call is available on the guidance and information for managers page.
Provider and stakeholder bulletins
Look out for the latest COVID-19 updates for providers and professionals working in adult social care, hospitals, and primary medical and dental sectors, and everyone interested in health and social care. Bulletins are available on the information for providers intranet page.
Stay safe at work (at home): Display Screen Equipment Reassessment
From Monday 1 June, all temporary homeworkers (i.e. those of us who are usually office-based) who have not completed a Display Screen Equipment (DSE) Reassessment since the start of lockdown, will receive an invitation to complete one at their earliest opportunity. This is to ensure we are all working safely in the current circumstances and to ensure our health isn’t impacted by working conditions. If you don't receive an invitation next week, please request one via AskHealthAndSafety@cqc.org.uk.

Government launches NHS Test and Trace service: New guidance means those who have been in close contact with someone who tests positive must isolate for 14 days, even if they have no symptoms. Also, anyone with symptoms will be tested and their close contacts traced. See GOV.UK.
-
Update to Domiciliary Care Agency (DCA) survey: We have received several enquiries from providers who have no service providers on a particular day, for example if people are self-isolating but the service has not closed. This means they cannot easily answer the first question in the DCA survey, 'How many people are using your service today?'. With this in mind, we are changing the validation back to allow an entry of '0' for this question. See the DCA survey intranet page for more information.
-
Emergency support framework (ESF) update: Guidance for applying the ESF in independent health ambulance services, dialysis services and learning disabilities and autism services have been added to the ESF intranet page. A link to the PMS checkbox ESF supplementary questions to support independent voice work has also been added.
-
Medicines optimisation: weekly COVID-19 briefing: This week's briefing covers medicines optimisation concerns across health and care services.
-
Update from executive team: Ted Baker, Chief Inspector of Hospitals, has recorded a video summary following the recent meeting of the executive team. Listen to Ted's message and post your comments in the Executive team updates Yammer group.
-
Equality impact assessment on our regulatory response to coronavirus: The recently updated EIA relating to CQC's coronavirus (COVID-19) regulatory response points to work we have already done on equality and human rights during the pandemic. It also strengthens our future action on intelligence, regulatory methods, engagement and independent voice, including equality issues that have emerged such as disproportionate deaths of BME people and people detained under the Mental Health Act. See the updated EIA on our website.
-
Message of thanks to CQC staff from Matt Hancock: Matt Hancock MP, Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, has written to CQC staff via our Chair, Peter Wyman, to express his thanks for the 'exemplary work that you have undertaken to protect the safety of staff and patients across the health and social care system during the COVID-19 pandemic'. Read the letter.
