Our COVID-19 Insight report
Tomorrow (Tuesday), we will publish the first of what will be a regular series of insight reports intended to provide transparency and to highlight COVID-19 related pressures on the sectors that CQC regulates. As well as sharing insight, the report asks questions and seeks to encourage collaboration. It will be published on our website and highlighted to providers and stakeholders, including those in government and the media. Look out for further details tomorrow.
Joint Committee on Human Rights, 18 May
Kate Terroni, Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care and Kevin Cleary, Deputy Chief Inspector, Hospitals, and lead for mental health, provided evidence this afternoon on behalf of CQC to the Joint Committee on Human Rights, as part of the committee's inquiry into the government's response to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to evidence about our response to the COVID-19 pandemic in relation to learning disability and autism services, Kate and Kevin represented our work so far on our thematic review of restraint, seclusion and segregation. A recording of the session is available on Parliament TV.
Diversity and inclusion in a time of crisis
"Now more than ever, it is essential to ensure we understand and respond to addressing inequalities across CQC and create a truly inclusive and compassionate culture which embraces and values all our people" - Safina Nadeem, Diversity and Inclusion Manager has written an article which considers what the national evidence and our Equality Impact Assessment is telling us, and looks forward to the launch of our new Diversity and Inclusion strategy in June. Coronavirus data collection DCA survey updated
We've made some changes to the coronavirus survey that we send to domiciliary care (DCA) providers. The changes have been designed to make the survey form easier for providers to complete. This helps lessen the burden on providers and also makes sure we get better quality data. The changes we've made are as follows:
- we now only ask providers to complete the survey each weekday
- we have added the name of the location to the survey form to make it easier for services with more than one location
- we are asking for more specific information about the people who have confirmed or suspected cases of coronavirus
- we have changed some of the settings to help prevent services entering incorrect data.
For more information on the DCA survey, please see the DCA survey intranet page.
Care home support package backed by £600 million to help reduce coronavirus infections

Mental Health Awareness Week, 18-24 May
This year's theme is kindness. Throughout this week, let's reflect on the impact kindness has had on us (giving and receiving), and the importance of being kind to ourselves.
Some of the things we can all do:
- Share your positive experiences by adding a comment or uploading a video to the Wellbeing Yammer Group #kindness
- Discuss your stories in a team catch up, reflecting on how you can continue to support each other and be kind to yourself.
-
Join a curious conversation to reflect and learn with colleagues across CQC. On 19 May, 12-1pm, the conversation will be about kindness and its impact on our mental health.
- Be conscious of small acts of kindness throughout the week.
-
Post a message of thanks on the values wall: give recognition to colleagues who have been kind to you.
Find out more about Mental Health Awareness Week and see the wellbeing intranet pages for a wide range of resources, including: understanding stress and your mental health, where to for help, and supporting others.
If you are in need of support, please talk to your line manager or an HR business partner. If you would prefer, you can access confidential counselling through our occupational health services.
We'd like to hear about ALL kinds of volunteering and secondments, including the volunteering of your time to provide exceptional support for your families, friends and local communities. Are you working on secondment within CQC to support another team/area at this time? Comment and share in the Virus volunteers Yammer group and/or post on the Values Wall and we'll highlight in these bulletins.
