Coronavirus (COVID-19) update, 23 March 2020

Operational readiness and our response

Registration and COVID-19
We want to support health and social care providers as they look to increase capacity as part of the ongoing effort to respond to COVID-19. To help ensure registration does not act as a barrier to these different ways of working, we have developed a special COVID-19 registration framework for providers responding to Department of Health and Social Care or Clinical Commissioning Group contingency planning. We will be communicating with providers from tomorrow.

Please see the presentation on the Registration guidance and decision making framework intranet page for how we plan to respond to COVID-19 applications, including:

  • How are we supporting changes in light of COVID-19?
  • What changes are we making?
  • What does this mean for providers?

Information sharing and governance advice for social care providers

NHS Digital and Digital Social Care have published brief information governance and information sharing guidance for social care. This advice sets out temporary measures to improve communication between health and social care during COVID-19.

Guidance for you to stay informed

Equipment checklist and safety guidance for temporary home working

Please complete a short checklist to let us know what you need to work safely at home. Please complete the checklist by Friday 27 March 2020 and return to: FacilitiesNorth@cqc.org.uk. Also see workstation safety guidance for all temporary home workers. If you have any concerns, please contact AskHealthAndSafety@cqc.org.uk, or discuss with your line manager.

Employee information pack

A new information pack, developed by colleagues in the People directorate, brings together the FAQs, reporting protocols, homeworking and school closure guidance - as well as other related HR communications. Find it on the COVID-19 information for colleagues intranet page

In case you missed it...

  • Essential workers status for CQC employees: We do not consider that CQC, as a whole, meets the definition of key worker status, as defined by the government last week. We will keep this under review as our regulatory activity develops in the coming weeks. See Schools and childcare provider guidance for colleagues.
  • Reporting cases of self-isolation: Please report all cases of self-isolation in the same way as absence, or any other leave relating to Coronavirus (COVID-19), i.e. by recording it in ESR and also reporting it to HR on 07384244307. A flow chart is available to assist with decision-making.
  • Employee assistance: If you have any concerns, please speak to your line manager. The Employee Assistance Programme is also available to all at CQC. The 24-hour helpline number is 0800 882 4102. Please quote username CQCEAP and Password CQCEAP1.
  • Looking after your mental health during the Coronavirus outbreak: The Mental Health Foundation website has some good advice about supporting and managing our wellbeing at this time.
  • Do we have your emergency contact number? Please remember to add your personal mobile number to your People Finder profile and please email Business.continuity@cqc.org.uk when you have done so.
