Stay at home. Protect the NHS. Save Lives.

The most important thing members of the public can do in the fight against coronavirus is to stay at home. Staying home helps protect the NHS and saves lives.

When we reduce our day-to-day contact with other people, we will reduce the spread of the infection.

That is why the government has introduced new rules requiring people to stay at home, except for very limited purposes.

You should only leave your home for one of 4 reasons:

• Shopping for basic necessities, for example food and medicine, which must be as infrequent as possible.
• One form of exercise a day, for example a run, walk, or cycle - alone or with members of your household.
• Any medical need, or to provide care or to help a vulnerable person.
• Travelling to and from work, but only where this absolutely cannot be done from home.

These 4 reasons are exceptions - even when doing these activities, you should be minimising time spent outside of the home and making sure you are 2 metres apart from anyone outside of your household.

Our response to coronavirus

We've suspended our routine inspections to reduce the pressure on health and social care services during the coronavirus outbreak. We'll still monitor them using data and information, and we will still visit if we think there's a risk of harm or abuse.

Because of these changes, it's even more important that we hear your feedback about services you've used or worked at.

We're making other changes to the way we work during the outbreak. These changes include how we do our job and support providers to keep people safe. They also affect how people communicate with us, or send us applications or information.

We expect to make more changes to the way we work to help us ensure people continue to get safe, high quality care, to reduce pressure on services and to support providers.
