A picture of health and care in your area

Our local intelligence profiles give a picture of the health and social care system in each local authority area. They bring together data to show how different services work together.

The profiles show how well the system in each local authority area measures up against certain standards. They focus on the care pathway for people aged 65 or over living in these areas. We created them to help us carry out our local system reviews.

Radiation incidents report

Our annual report on activity relating to our enforcement of the Ionising Radiation (Medical Exposure) Regulations in England has been published.

Healthcare providers must tell us when patients are exposed to radiation when it was unintended. They must also tell us when patients received a higher dose than intended.

The report gives a breakdown of the number and type of notifications we received during the 2017 calendar year and the first quarter of 2018.

New web resource to explore technology in care

A new series on our website explores the use of recording devices to check somebody's care.

The resource updates our previously published information on surveillance. We have separate information for providers who are considering using this kind of technology in their care service.

Equally Outstanding: an update

Last autumn, we published Equally Outstanding, a resource which shows how a focus on equality and human rights can improve care quality – even in times of financial constraint.

One year on, we have updated Equally Outstanding with:

  • a new e-learning module
  • extra case studies from outstanding providers
  • an updated PDF version based on feedback

Learning from safety incidents: Falls from windows

Earlier this year, CQC prosecuted a provider and registered manager of a nursing home. A resident had died after falling from his second-floor bedroom window.

At the time, the window did not have window restrictors.

Find out what other care providers can do to avoid this happening

Inpatient survey

If you're aged 16 to 35 and recently stayed in hospital, you should have received the 2018 inpatient survey.

Feedback from patients is a powerful source of information which we use to inform our work. Please complete and return your survey to let us know what you thought about your care.
