At the beginning of this month we published a report exploring the quality of care for people with diabetes in England. My diabetes, my care highlights that despite a mostly good picture of care overall, the provision of care and support to help people successfully self-manage their condition is not always flexible and responsive enough to meet individual needs.

Confidential personal information

Following a public consultation earlier this year, we have published an updated version of our code of practice on confidential personal information. The code of practice explains how we sometimes need to use our statutory powers to look at people’s information during inspections and provides assurance that the information will be handled safely.

National Guardian update

Dr Henrietta Hughes starts as National Guardian for the NHS in October. Together with Freedom to Speak Up Guardians in NHS Trusts and Foundation Trusts, her role is to help build a more positive culture in the NHS, where staff experience is valued as a key step in ensuring safe and excellent delivery of care. The deadline for trusts to nominate their Freedom to Speak Up Guardian is 1 October 2016. The National Guardian’s Office is hosting a series of events to support newly-appointed Freedom to Speak Up Guardians over the next three months.
